I grew a beard out of necessity, and found people fell into 3 categories. A - those who didn't notice at all; B - those who knew something was different, but weren't sure what; and C - those who no longer recognised me. One of my good mates has had a long beard for about 10 years - he's really fucked off with this trend; I don't think I'd ever go back to being clean shaven.
