Surprised he then had the gas to get by 2nd time but he did get the Aussie to go very long which gave him an edge. Hope he gets a medal but judging by his flying lap it'll be on a wing and a prayer. Pretty low general standard with no frogs or Germans there but must be nice to know he can make up for that amount of speed differential with his head. On the other hand, he really should not have been as low as 11th in qualifying - 13th would have been unlucky! And Hindes was there and he is pretty German. The only French speaking country involved is Cameroon. But a part of it was British (and the rest French) after the Germans lost their colonies in 1919. They really do seem to take the 'off years' thing pretty seriously because his flying lap was woeful - pretty ordinary level of competition here for the sprints and as you say he was nowhere.
