  • Fad bollocks IMO.   Don't eat shit food.   Don't eat carbs if your not going to burn them off.   Fuck the ale off.   And excercise to hearts content.   Pretty fucking simple really.

Most people who are overweight have poor eating habits.

Drinking a juice of any description doesn't teach them anything at all.

So they lose weight on the juice, start eating again and put weight back on.

Secondly, juicing is consuming unnecessary and surplus calories.

It takes approx 14 oranges to make a pint of juice.

You could easily drink the pints and all those calories and want more. You couldn't eat 14 oranges in one go.

I am of course using oranges as an example, but it applies to all juiceable fruit and veg.

The simplest way to lose weight is to consume less calories, fat and sugar than you used to.

Fraid we will have to agree to disagree on some points here traff, especially juicing which is not just about juicing fruit such as oranges. Its not about replacing "every meal" with juice either. I can only go off what my personal experiences and friends and relatives who have done it. My pint of "juice" comes in at 400 to 500 calories depending on what I juice, mostly green veg ( this site is a tool for calculating calories in a juice http://myphytos.com/ ) . I would struggle to consume that much fresh veg "unjuiced" in one sitting. Basically replacing 4 - 5 meals per week with juice works for me, I always feel more energetic and less lethargic. I'll take a freshly made juice over a meal of processed food or a shop bought sandwich any day.

I'll keep saying it, but anything that gets or helps someone on the journey to changing their lifestyle should not be snubbed or sneered at. I know very well what the recommended advice is on weight loss and in my future line of work I will no doubt have to to follow it. However, my own personal view is that this has not changed for the last 25 years, yet more people are becoming overweight. The current approach clearly is not working. Keep on doing the same thing in the same circumstances usually ends up with the same outcomes.

Not read this entire thread but, as a few on here will know, even a regular exerciser like me can start to develop a bit of a gut. When I get back from my annual 4 weeks in Europe, I have usually acquired 5-7 kilos.

Looked at all of the 'fad diets' and concluded that Weight Watchers definitely works but it's a fucking pain having to measure everything etc. On top of that, I have a severe dislike of altered shitting patterns which WW definitely causes. Lost 7 kilos by using it on 3 occasions mind so there is no argument that it works.

Having watched the documentary on fasting and living longer etc., developed interest and took up the 5 and 2 challenge. 5 days of normality - eating, drinking and being merry - 2 days of fasting. The best yet. The 600 calorie maximum (for blokes - 500 for flatdicks) soon becomes a less than difficult adjustment and, obviously, the 5 normal days are no problem at all.

The other thing is it becomes a lifestyle thing. Every Monday and Thursday is a fast day for me and it's become second nature and bowel functions are completely unaffected. Marvellous. Would recommend this to anyone but remember, you are pissing in the wind without at least 30-45 minutes of exercise each day.

A lot of people have had success doing 5-2 and many find it reasonably easy to maintain, yet again it is dismissed as it does not adhere to the current medical mantra. For those who are physically able to do it, the exercise always helps. It makes me smile how many folk claim their busy lifestyles don't allow an hour a day to  change, exercise for 35 mins and shower, but then watch TV for 4 hours a night.

It can be difficult.

I have to exercise (when the knee allows it) immediately after I get home otherwise I won't do it.

If I get home from the office @ 7:30pm - 8pm it means by the time I've done something & showered, I'm eating a meal about 9:30pm-10pm (assuming it's fresh ingredients not processed crap as that would work against the exercise). Eating at that time isn't particularly healthy - especially as I trend to go to bed between 10pm and 11pm as I need my sleep.

Now, if I have a function on or have to meet someone in the evening, when do I exercise?

See it's possible, but to say that folk can't be to busy to exercise is simply a fallacy

All last Autumn, Winter and Spring I used to get to college for 7:15am in Trafford to avoid traffic, used to get up at 5:00am and some days get out an jog for  20 or 30 mins whilst me porridge was on low, cooking. I found that after a couple of weeks my body clock woke me at 4:50am before the alarm.

Then there's always the weekend?  Like owt else it depends how much one wants to do it I suppose. :D

My gym is on my commute home which definitely helps as I feel guilty driving past.

Manage 3 runs a week, alongside 1 visit to the gym..

Shall be setting off early to uni from Sept, so i'll head out half hour earlier and integrate my gym onto the route (shower at gym rather than bath at home)..

I've cut a lot of crap out ( still have guilty pleasures), but my weight just wont shift, it comes off and then comes back.. Belly has slimmed right down but i'll never have a six pack. Hoping that the running will help add a bit more definition to the tree trunks I have for legs.

That said I feel physically better for it and a lot less stressed,

I binge alcohol, eat alot of crisps and chocolate between meals. White bread. Yet never seem put weight on. Been within 3 or 4 pounds last ten year, waist hasn't changed since I went from

How does exercising and fasting mix? I get light headed if I go few hours without food, not sure I could go for a run on a day of fasting, wouldn't have the energy

A 35/45 minute brisk walk in the morning for me matey. Not only good for keeping everything running correctly but sparks me up for the day and I arrive at work firing on all cylinders.

On the odd occasion the pissing rain foils my perambulation, I arrive at work in a sloth like state needing a couple of good, strong tea heart starters before I can get going.

32 to 34 inch at uni. That said I'm never

Off the shitter

If the 1979 means what we think it means, you are on the precipice pal. Your metabolism changes right around your age and weight gain becomes all too easy. That's when a level of sensible control has to come in or you will quickly be able to mimic Fat Frank.

If you have half a brain (as I have always suspected), stop bingeing on alcohol and cut down of the chocolate and crisps. Get more fresh vegetables down you along with lean meats, fish and some fruit and you won't go wrong.

One of life's great pleasures. Long may it continue for you.

I would advocate the 5:2 diet too. Used it last year to lose half a stone. Fasted Monday and Wednesday (non-exercise days) and trained and ate as normal for the other five.

I stopped at  Christmas and haven't gone back to it but my weight has remained a constant 12.5 Stone (give or take a weekly fluctuation of a couple of pounds).

Yeah it is definitely about how much you want to and therefore prioritise

I've supposed to have been doing 30-45 mins knee rehab daily but in reality it's been more like 4-5 times per week

If it gets sorted I'll replace that with other exercise but there is no way that I'll ever have time to do more than that as other things get prioritised

I envy those that can get up super early to exercise; I currently wake up at half six ish and leave for the office about 7...I tried the gym before work a couple of years ago and it wasn't for me!

The 79 does mean what you think. Yep I'm trying to cut down on the crap. I do eat fair bit of veg, well have with most evening meals, salad for lunch 3 Times a week. It's the crap inbetween the issue eg eating a box of Pringles watching tv at 9pm. I'll actually be glad when metabolism slows down, I'd take weight gain to the bowel issues I have. The shit I eat don't help obviously between meals but tried diet changes, tablets from doctors and fk all works. Hypnosis next step to try on that front. Good lord

Interestingly a box of original pringles contains 900 calories and 54 grams of fat and 2 grams of sugar and nearly 1 gram of salt. I once saw someone on TV use  pringles instead of fire lighters to light a charcoal BBQ :D

Did I not say that?

Did I not say that?

I think we are talking apples and oranges here :D

Whilst I want to consume all the nutrients and enzymes from that much "fresh uncooked" green veg, I cannot physically eat it in one go, juicing it means I get the majority of them in a drinkable quantity.

I don't get why you think  "juicing is consuming unnecessary and surplus calories". Once I have drunk my pint or just over, I never feel the need to carry on eating and at 400+ calories its enough to put me on until my dinner later.

Don't worry mate - salted snacks are a particular downfall for me. You can keep your sweets and stuff. Crisps and salted cashews disappear near me.

What I like about the 5;2 thing is that  can have them (in moderation of course) on the normal days.

You might be OK with them, but many fatties with poor eating habits will have their juice plus and then still have their tea later.

And with little/no exercise, they think they're doing the right thing, but they're actually doubling up.

I try to avoid eggs on this 5:2 thing though. HAF.
