  • Fad bollocks IMO.   Don't eat shit food.   Don't eat carbs if your not going to burn them off.   Fuck the ale off.   And excercise to hearts content.   Pretty fucking simple really.

Fuck all this gay juice off and do something to burn calories i.e. cardio and some weights to build muscle. Get some protein down your neck, fucking lots of it, breakfast, post-gym and bedtime. Sorted.

Food without carbs is boring as fcuk

It sounds good but I can't be doing with it

Sea food stir fries and loads of grapes worked for me

But aye, white bread is the devils work

Thing is you can eat carbs. It's all about timing.

Lass that runs the cafe I go in told me she was on a diet the other week. Said all proud as punch she had a Tuna Jacket for her tea the night before. I asked did she doing anything afterwards, she said nothing just watched telly. I said you'd have been better off having a plate of sausage and eggs.

Carbs are a source of energy. Energy needs using up or it's gets stored for later use. Usually on your gut.

I get a headache if I go a day without carbs. It's no excuse for being a chubster I know but fuck that, I'd sooner eat them than feel like shit.

same here, id rather just eat what i want. who fucking cares.

as long as i dont balloon to a 40 inch plus waste i'll eat whatever i fancy

If you want to lose wait you have to exercise

Diet is ok, but you'll only shed so much

Exercise at least 4 times a week

HTH

Well you don't have to be obsessive about it but really, plenty of people eat cereal for breakfast, sandwich for lunch, pasta or rice for tea with bread on top, toast for supper kind of thing

Far too much bread, and snack on sugary stuff. It's poor (as in poverty) food, basically, used to fill an empty stomach rather than fulfil nutritional requirements

Low carb is the best way to burn a bit of fat / lose a few pounds for a bloke

Instead of focusing on quanitity of food, focus on quality

Plenty of meat, eggs, veg ... absolute minimum of bread, rice, pasta, pizza, cereals and sugary stuff

You might not even lose a lot of weight but you'll burn off fat and turn it into muscle (i.e. you'll look slimmer but weigh the same)

If you graft for a living, you won't even have to do much exercise

This

Giving up carbs isn't easy though. I'm usually quite lazy at work and end up having a bag of crisps and a sandwich. I usually have a low carb evening meal and it seems to do the trick.

That said, your metabolism does a lot of the work.. so don't be afraid to push the boat out now and then, without the odd binge your body would just adjust and you will burn less

Protein and fat are also sources of energy, at the end of the day weight loss is about calories in versus calories expended, there are numerous ways to achieve the correct balance.

Aye your right, but in most cases folk would prefer your protein supply to be used to aid muscle growth and recovery, not broken down and used as energy because there fuck all else for your body to break down.

During a carb depletion phase, the body doesn't actually start tapping into stored fat supplies for about 10 days anyway. It instead hammers glycogen and such like.

Like you say earlier its whatever works best for you,but IMO carb depletion heavily effects by gym performance and energy levels at work.

I now do a carb cycle plan. Basicly eat a limited good source of carbs on training days to aid energy levels during training. On recovery days zero.

It really does work for me. Continually loosing weight but retaining muscle mass at the same time.

Like you say fats can be used as energy but to say you need to micro manage your diet for this happen is an understatement.

Beer is the biggest killer of all. Bar non.

I was 14st 4 last weds. I drank all day Sunday and ate like shit, then ate nothing on Monday morning till a full English breakfast to aid a hangover. I was back up to 14.9 On Monday night. Bonkers.

I weighed myself (naked btw, if you want to give yourself a treat of a mental picture ;) ) before and after a dump on a precise scale - the differential was quite remarkable, I can't remember the exact figure but it supported the old putdown ''I've shat X lbs...'' when poo-poohing someone else weight loss.

As an aside, one frequent pitfall of extreme low-fat regimes is impotence, or at least 'less vigour' - what's the point in looking the part and then your cock is like a wet plumbbob string? :)

I'm not saying carb depletion doesn't work by the way.

Of course it does.

I just don't like it and find it bollockses me.

If its basic weight loss your after then crack on with that. Just don't fall off the wagon.

Depends what you mean by carb depletion Gonzo. There are carbs and carbs.

I followed a very low fat regime for 6 months and cut out potatoes, pasta, bread (and alcohol for the first ten weeks and shed over 7 stone. (mind you i also exercised twice a day). However, I made sure I consumed plenty of complex carbs, such as porridge every morning made with water and lunch and dinner always had lots of steamed veg especially green veg such as Kale, Spring greens, Cavolo Nero cabbage, spinach, broccoli etc. I also juiced every over day but mainly veg and wheatgrass with the occasional apple, kiwi fruit thrown in.

I still avoid white pasta, bread and spuds as much as possible and any cereal that comes in a box.

Protein and fat are also sources of energy, at the end of the day weight loss is about calories in versus calories expended, there are numerous ways to achieve the correct balance.

Bugs me this. Often not the case, what about if someone has a hormone or thyroid problem?

If you're going into nutrition, you'll be dealing with folk like that.

some folk can tolerate carbs quite easily. Depends on the body type a lot, i.e. ectomorphs.

But yes better everyone drop the white grains. Fuck all nutritional value. Dunno about anyone else but I prefer brown rice and bread anyway.

Sorry Jay but it's a scientific fact that if you consume more calories than you expend you put on weight , but if you have a slight negative balance you will lose weight.

I was simply pointing out that both fats and protein both contain calories. This is also a fact.

Sorry that this somehow upsets you.

Pasta and bread are my staple. Barely eat protein being vegetarian. Absolutely zero interest in muscle mass.

Good job then really :-)

Top tip for vegetarians, black-eyed beans (not the wanky band) - four tins for quid at Asda (£1 for four mix and match KTC range; Black-eyed beans, kidney beans (and 'chilli' beans), lima (butter) beans, chickpeas, borlotti beans, plum tomatoes etc.)

I swear by my beans and pulses these days - one of the five a day without thinking about it.

There's a lot of bullshit in this thread, that's for sure.

Most people who are overweight have poor eating habits.

Drinking a juice of any description doesn't teach them anything at all.

So they lose weight on the juice, start eating again and put weight back on.

Secondly, juicing is consuming unnecessary and surplus calories.

It takes approx 14 oranges to make a pint of juice.

You could easily drink the pints and all those calories and want more. You couldn't eat 14 oranges in one go.

I am of course using oranges as an example, but it applies to all juiceable fruit and veg.

The simplest way to lose weight is to consume less calories, fat and sugar than you used to.

I know I'm a fat cunt, but I do know what I'm talking about.

The wife is a fully qualified nutritionist or something similar. She tells me what she does, but I tend to ignore it. :D

Not read this entire thread but, as a few on here will know, even a regular exerciser like me can start to develop a bit of a gut. When I get back from my annual 4 weeks in Europe, I have usually acquired 5-7 kilos.

Looked at all of the 'fad diets' and concluded that Weight Watchers definitely works but it's a fucking pain having to measure everything etc. On top of that, I have a severe dislike of altered shitting patterns which WW definitely causes. Lost 7 kilos by using it on 3 occasions mind so there is no argument that it works.

Having watched the documentary on fasting and living longer etc., developed interest and took up the 5 and 2 challenge. 5 days of normality - eating, drinking and being merry - 2 days of fasting. The best yet. The 600 calorie maximum (for blokes - 500 for flatdicks) soon becomes a less than difficult adjustment and, obviously, the 5 normal days are no problem at all.

The other thing is it becomes a lifestyle thing. Every Monday and Thursday is a fast day for me and it's become second nature and bowel functions are completely unaffected. Marvellous. Would recommend this to anyone but remember, you are pissing in the wind without at least 30-45 minutes of exercise each day.

How does exercising and fasting mix? I get light headed if I go few hours without food, not sure I could go for a run on a day of fasting, wouldn't have the energy
