I'm not a fan of what I'm about to say because it's used unnecessarily at times. But Oldham is a proper northern club. Good to see them back in the league. Chuffed for 'em.

Heard yesterday they were struggling to sell tickets for this.

Imagine DMB vs Bayern at Old Trafford struggling to sell out?

They are decades behind united.

Empty blue seats everywhere. 2 points from 5 games so far. Massive!

They were doing BOGOF for the CSKA game

Any

news on how eidur got on tonight?

Like I said take Aguero away

Chelsea 5-0 up at Schalke where there's 120K on at 23p a ticket.

Watched both City and Barca games, both entertaining, Messi broke another record and scored a weak footed hat-trick Bowton.

Have they put the prices up? Boooooo

He still not as good as Higuian

Never will be.

Beckford scored in a pen shoot-out for Preston,

Zlatan's goal was nice for PSG as was Herrera's for Porto.

Worked at City tonight on segregation line, not 100% full but not far off. The Champions League anthem was roundly booed.

See absolutely loads of day trippers at these Champions League games, tourists in half and half scarves carrying these CL goodie bags. Just as bad in Bayern end, lower tier had the ultra element but top tier where I was, was full of Chinese waving home made banners! And a bloke in a Schalke scarf, he's probably had a bad night.

Well, they are Champions. That is what counts.

But how many times have City played Bayern in the last few seasons? It's almost an annual fixture. The Champions League is becoming as predictable as the Premier League. FFP will just make it worse.

United could play Bayern every Saturday and it would sell out.

My point was some city fans seem to think they are hot on united tail in terms of club size and fan base. They are bloody light years behind.

I'm not sure it would though. Not if they were struggling to get beyond the group stage every season.

When Utd didn't win the league for years, City weren't doing much better, so they didn't really attract much more support. It'll be interesting to see whether the balance shifts if Utd don't win it again for a while, especially since City are expanding their stadium.

One thing, when both of them play in the CL then there's fucking thousands of daytrippers, using the same roads as their satnav sends them all the same way. Basically gridlocking Manchester. When they are in the league folk know where they are going. Fact.

Not sure crowds should be a gauge. As pabbs says they are champions and better than the dmbs. Its only Newcastle and Leeds who obsess with crowd size as they have nought else to go on by.

I think after the novelty wears off, European football is in fact quite dull

See their honours list for the past 25 years.

See their worldwide revenue and pulling power.

Liverpool are still a bigger club and they've been living on past glories for decades.

..............because they didn't have an air disaster to engender a worldwide sympathy vote.

Thats all irrelivant.

An Evertonian would say that.

You'll be telling me Blackburn were a giant in the 90's next.

Nah, its like you beating Blackburn and getting in the prem....but them still bieng bigger because they won the Prem.

That's the point though. They'll fill a 75,000 stadium with a successful team but if they're not winning trophies every season, the glory hunters will go elsewhere and let's face it, a sizeable proportion of their support are glory hunters.

Wishful thinking IMO.

Arsenal sell out every week and they've won one FA cup in 9 seasons.

Liverpool sell out every week and they've won a handful of pots in 30 years.

United are bigger than any of em. It will take a hell of a lot of trophyless seasons to shift their pulling power.

They are already 4th and they've been shite all season.

Arsenal are in a city of 8-9M and they have 15,000 fewer seats to fill. Liverpool have 30,000 fewer seats to fill.

Utd had thousands of empty seats for an early round of the League Cup not that long ago. A few years back that would have been unthinkable. I don't think they sold out for the Europa League home games either when they didn't get through the group stage of the Champions League.
