The red thing is a Chinese superstition not a Thai one.

didn't stop Vincent Tan (Malaysian)

I guess the best (only?) way forward is taking investment from somewhere

it won't be english

just hope we don't get a Venkys type set up

I think Eddie would have to wipe a large portion if not all the debt if he got 40 million and the debt was cleared think he would be happy with that.

If that was the case we'd have been sold within an hour of us going on the market.

Maybe thats how we managed to get a manager like Lennon, maybe he was told about the investment?? unlikely i know but hey what the hell

I doubt it, judging from what lennon said when he took the job on, he wanted it from the word go and had to convince PG and ED he was the man for the job

Horwich trotters?

Makes sense with horwichers being pigs and trotters our nickname

He is Chinese though.

The Malaysian population is a third Malay, a third Indian and a third Chinese.

I was in Kaula Lumpur last year, it is a real up and coming place, really business minded people.

Whats more interesting than this Thai interest is that the club have now disclosed they have recently been in talks with several investors, think thats the frist concrete evidence of any interest in BWFC from investors I would love to know who these potential investors are, anyone got any hunches?

"investors", Mounts ?

Does that not imply a return on investment somehow ?

I've not read 58 posts, but if Bolton suddenly had millions and millions to spend because of some foreign outfit  it wouldn't be my Bolton. My Bolton has always struggled, has always had to fight to get out of trouble, has had highs and lows and has always (up to now) come through.

That's the Bolton I signed up for, so it's a no from me.

You're spot on. Things are moving. Like others, I have some misgivings about foreign investment but there'll need to be change. Eddie has done his bit and deserves a bit of payback -- and we deserve someone who can take us forward.

the question of just how big an impact a minted - i dunno if they are, btw - investor can make still remains

FFP prevents a spending spree

You're basically right. However I suspect there are ways new owners would be able to represent money put in to the club as income counting towards the overall turnover figure against which FFP matter are judged.

I agree on the misgivings of foreign owners but really despise the word deserve in football. Probably because it is regularly used by West Ham and Newcastle fans.

Do we deserve it more than 91 other league clubs? Most fans would love the decade we have come out of. It brings me back to the Fulham fan who recently said their rightful place is the premier league and as fans they deserve a manager who will take them back.

To be fair I used the word deserve with respect to Eddie Davies getting a bit of his hard-earned back - having seemingly ploughed most of it in to the club these past years.

is the 40 million the amount eddie is out of pocket, i wonder?

i suspect its more

Not for me.

Can't see how we will ever generate a return for these investors.

Would rather see us run at breakeven and hopefully ED write off most/all the debt.

I don't think ED is really in to the tune of £160m anyway considering we were about £30m in debt when he bought the club for a song and much of the debt accrued since is rolled up interest payable to his investment vehicle.

I agree then :)

Too many Villa fans round here going on about what they deserve makes me angry :)

Not for me.

But if you take a mortgage from the bank you can't just choose to just pay off the interest and never the capital. The rate of interest he used to charge on the loan is probably much better than any bank offered so as far as I can see it is a real debt and money he could have chosen to use elsewhere.

Not for me.

id like holly willoughby to cook me breakfast

What would you like her to cook?

Well as I say Cas he's not in for £160m as you appear to understand judging by your point wondering how much he is actually in for.

He could even continue to recoup cah post sale by a sale and leaseback of the training/ground/academy/stadium/hotel.

I don't think we'd need foreign megabucks to give him enough back to think about walking away; so I don't think him doing so is quite as outlandish as Ms Willoughby rustling you up a full English.

I'd like to see someone with a connection to the club a la Hilary Devey or the Appliances Online mon come in and I don't think they are a million miles away from being able to do that.

Also the rather soft denial indicates they are trying to smoke out other interested parties, but that's the sensible thing to do in any case.

I think that's how PSG fell foul of the regulations. Owners are allowed to invest in the infrastructure but not just give the club money in a 'sponsorship' deal that's out of all proportion to the going rate.

The puzzling thing about the article is that one of the things they seem to be attracted by is that all the infrastructure is in place, so i'm not sure how they would add value, other than by clearing the debt.

Pretty sure Forest did something similar. And are probably still doing it.

Could they book the deluxe room in the hotel for 50 million a night?

I would love the fans of the club to be given a share of the club for free so that the fans voice can be heard, many will have reservations about that but thats how its done in Germany and I think it would be a positive to have fans included in some capacity or other.

God help us if the fans get a voice on the board

Well Gartside a fan isnt he? so is Brett W and the owner as well, we have some folk intelligent enough to be on the board, present company excluded. :)
