Memories As A Kid

Featured Replies

Can anyone confirm or correct me on an old memory of mine from being a kid at burnden?

Could have most of this totally wrong

Early 80's

Opening day of season

Newcastle at home, they were newly promoted

Kevin keegan just joined them

Geordies everywhere, fighting in burnden paddock

Won 3-1, Jeff chandler.

Fighting in Manny road don't remember Burnden paddock fighting. I'd say Tony Henry not so much Chandler.

Remember being in paddock sat in the railings, vague memory off my old man rushin down to me cos it was all going off in the walkway.saying that it could easy of been another match

So correct on everything else ?

It's a long time ago some others might have a clearer memory. Definitely remember more Geordies on than Bolton and Newcastle fans being chased over the fence by the Manny Roaders who though few in number were a fiesty bunch.

Spaz nobs first game

I was in paddock, first game without my dad, first fv too... I real eye opener, they where mainly pissed up Geordie's who went down pretty quickly.

Spaz nobs first game

Correcatmundo. The only thing I remember of the game though is being on the embankment and old fella in front of me eating a packet of biscuits.

1982

It was the first home game of the season, we had played away at Burnely the week before (and drawn 0:0)

We won 3-1 with Henry getting 2 and Reid getting the other.

I remember it being heaving, but having just checked there were only 17,738 on.....still, it was our largest crowd that season by a long way, with the next highest being 10,784 when we got beat by Leeds at home.

Looking at the results, we really were dogshit that season

I wasn't far off, seeing it was my 1st match n being a nipper. Remember being scared shitless but I couldn't wait go again.

I was in the Paddock, there was plenty of fisticuffs in there, the pissed Geordies were left nursing their wounds.

The main action I believe was on Lever St before the game, serious mayhem around the Nightingale and Little John.

Burnden was meant to hold 42,000 in those days, if there was only that crowd mentioned on that day, there was some serious fiddling of gate receipts.

was a very scared 14 year old that day..the walk up manny road after the match was not for the faint hearted..

Remember that day, my old man had me under his arms leaving manny road whilst one arrowing the geordies running in

Must have known your dad what was his name? I was in the Manny road north for every home game from 81 to the early early 90s when I moved to the Burnden paddock.

I remember as a kid in school being the only one in my class that went watching bolton.....

Woodside had a coach going to Old Trafford most weeks.

There were 2 of us in my primary school class

And this wasn't in Bolton and in the 80's

Random

Don't remember much of the game

I was sat on the metal fencing in the paddock on halfway line

With my dad stood behind me giving a few Geordies a crack that were getting to close

Like others have said the walk through the car park and up manny road was was very eventful

Show me picture next time you see me.

Painful memories of the rest of the season after beating the barcodes. As a 14 year old the slight aprehension of when the Geordies were in town was nothing compared to the fear when bloody Chelsea Tore the place apart in that last home game - sat in Burnden Stand (lightweight I know) as the seats were flying back and forth. Worse still though was one week later - the trip to the Valley to see the relegation capitulation. The slide didn't stop there of course - only Robbie's goal 5 years later turned the tide. Memories indeed.....

I remember Sheffield Utd taking over the whole of the Embankment End later in the 80's. They were just climbing over the fence at the back rather than going through the turnstiles.

Was my mates 18th birthday when we played the Geordies, got pissed in Howcroft & Prince Bill before the game, never saw a goal & sprained my ankle as I walked up the Burnden Paddock with 2 pints...we scored & everyone piled down into me! Were we on match of the day? Seem to remember going home to sleep it off thinking I'd watch it on the box but sleeping straight through til Sunday. Could be wrong though, the memory does play tricks.

Did both sets of fans swap ends from lever to embankment during the Chelsea match , remember my brother mentioning a Chelsea game that was total mayhem
