Sky's Friday Night Premier League Proposal

Sorry if this has been covered off before - but was discussing with relative at weekend who thinks its a great idea - will help fill pubs on a Friday night, etc. Little thought has gone into Championship games that are shown on Friday and the Rugby Super League - which relies on that Friday night slot.

In theory we could now have 7 out of 10 EPL fixtures show live over a weekend.

Fri night

Sat lunch

Sat evening

Sun lunch

Sun 2pm

Sun 4pm

Mon evening

Serious overkill!

Bad news Imo. I like it when we play but gutted on the sat after.

There'll be a point where all 10 are televised live.

They wouldn't ever do 7 though. When there is a Monday game this takes the place of either a sat or sun game. Having a live Friday will be at the expense of a for example Sat lunch prem game, paving the way for a championship live Sat Lunch game etc

Fri 7.30

Sat 11.30, 3.00, 5.30 & 7.30

Sun 11.30, 1.30, 3.30 & 5.30

Mon 7.30

They do this in Portugal, when Porto/Benfica are in Champions League they play the Friday before. Ours are rocking up having played 4pm on Sunday.

Other than that they stick a zero interest game on, Stoke v Leicester or some comparative shit.

theres no reason they cant show more than one at once

Fri 7.30

Sat 11.30, 3.00, 5.30 & 7.30

Sun 11.30, 1.30, 3.30 & 5.30

how it tends to be in spain

they don't even play final day of the season games at the same time

whilst Barca / Madrid tend to play the sat/sun evening games only (though Barca recently had to play an early ko to meet demands from the far east, or something(

Sky do very well out of Friday Night Super League and premier league aside its often the top watched event on their channels, so they wont be in a rush to dilute that one much unless its BT Sports who decide to show it.

But they're a bit wank anyway.

I remember the early days of the Premiership with BBC televising a Friday night match Chelsea vs Everton with the scallies in a dreadful away kit. Sofa football is for couch potatoes in any case.

If there's money in it, they'll do it.

What do away fans matter anyway.

Everyone will slag it off but everyone will sit there watching it.

Supply and demand and all that bollocks

Has the demand not been influenced by the supply?

It's great for Mr & Mrs armchair though it'll sooner or later affect attendances Shirley?

I couldn't give a monkey's fart either way to be honest

I think they don't care about attendances, they likes of Sky and BT Sport are faer more concerned about Mr & Mrs Armchair, as they're paying a subscription. Folk in the grounds aren't

Personally I think one day all Premiership games will be shown on the t.v, Sky & B.T will share it between them often putting games on at the same time. Furthermore attendances will be affected.

Talks of doing it in next package. Clubs think they are missing out on hooky pub viewers. Talks of games being available but blocked out close to the stadiums the greedy wankers

Eventually clubs will sort out there own TV deals and it will no longer be a collective deal. This means the "big" clubs will absolutely swamp the smaller clubs......in a greater way than they already do

They won't do that. I hope not anyway. That's why Spain is fucked. Barca and real have massive TV deals and the rest have much less.

you may believe the premier league is the best league in the world, you may not. But it is perceived to be the best and most competitive league in the world. Why follow a model like Spain or Italy when you are already seen as the best and make more revenue than any other league?

The likes of Man Utd and Liverpool are owned by business men who want to make lots of money, given the chance they would love the chance to do what the big clubs in Italy and Spain have done.

At some point in the future, I also expect the "big" clubs to finally fuck off and set up a European Super League. If that happens, then all the money will drain away from domestic football......although that may not be a bad thing

I saw a bit of look northwest tonight where a billionaire major shareholder in the DMBs referred to the club as a 'TV programme'. That's a bit fucked up.

Spot on.

I've said it before.

The sooner they fook off & do a European Premier league the better. Then the rest of us can get back to proper football, & if they think they can keep a B-team in the domestic league, filling their stadiums every week instead of every 2 weeks, they can fook off!

& if the Bolton Munichs think they can watch us one week & Munichs next week in the Europe league? They can fook off too!

Munich Bastards!

Spot on.

Sums it up nicely for me

Spain is going with the collective rights model we use as they now see the merits of how we do it.

Can't remember the name of TV co. but when I was in Asia you could basically pick which Prem game you wanted to see.  All though you would need several TVs to view all at once!

Think I was able to see all Bolton games live when I was there.

Point being - here in the UK we get bummed silly over viewing football and it's our product.

Like folk have said though, supply and demand; if people are happy to pay for a service that's not even as good as folk get in Asia then carry on.  Money talks and all that
