Right and they're saying after 12 weeks continuous work on regular hours you have the right to a proper contract rather than a zero hours one. So if you like zero hours you stay as is. But you have the choice. Seems fine to me.

Seems fine to me. i had a spell working for a big company who employ 10k worldwide and scream how theyre family friemdly they used loads of agency labour - 5 years on, they still have the same folk working for them - only difference is its a different agency they could turn up at 6 o clock and get told - now owork today, go home, no money it stinks but having to offer guaranteed hours doesnt seem to work for me nor does this 6 fcuking weeks paternity bollocks it might work in some public sector department overstaffed to high heaven with 83 thousand worklshy layabouts but in the real world of small companies, get fooked my lot cant afford to be off, anyway

Labours policy seems not terrible to me. It's trying to find a balance. As above there are ways around it for industries that have no choice. But other businesses are just being lazy and exploiting people's desperation when they could offer regular hours. I'd agree there are bigger issues in the economy and Labour may be over egging the pudding, but it definitely isn't a non-issue.

April 2, 201511 yr It's a bit of a non issue Listening to radio 5 yesterday and they said that there are 700,000 on zero hour contracts (3% of total PAYE). A third of them would want a rigid hours contract - that's circa 200,000 Concentrate on creating hundreds of thousands of jobs by getting some big civil capital expenditure projects up and running then let market forces do the rest
