Labour Leadership Debate

Featured Replies

So you consider William Hague's "Hague" baseball cap to be a smart bit of clobber? Crikey.

How dare you attempt to besmirch the image of the best voice in politics? I could listen to him giving a thesis on crochet. Dulcet velvet.

Youri - Wiggo is a sharp dresser. All top Mods own a Prince of Wales check suit (yes, before you ask. Bespoke too made by the most famous Italian tailors in Perth).

Not interested in Powell and his gangster chic. Shite look in that photo.

So, you are half right which is a big improvement on your normal standard of attainment.

  • So, he's u-turned so far on the EU, NATO, the monarchy, trident and Conservative deficit plans. But it's OK because he's principled. And a straight talker. And honest. And principled.   He's a nob.

  • Bowing and kneeling in front of the Queen is as backward as supplicating towards Mecca.

  • 1. You're not great.   2. Speak for yourself.

Prince of Wales check in that cut (Wiggins's's') might have looked the zenith of dog's bollocks hwen walking down the King's Road in 1967, today in 2015, however, it's at the nadir of dog shit...

A proper suit, it should be timeless.

I doubt Wiggins would wear that around Great Lever way but there are plenty of places here and now, in 2015, that still appreciate style. (I don't own a POW check suit by the way but I do have a couple of pairs of trousers)

I wouldn't wear a suit 'round Great Lever way' either, as there's no cause to.

The man looks a c*nt, put it to public vote.

Fair dos those who were around at the time or thereabouts and still want to live it, but this guy is barely in his thirties and is walking around like a museum piece, it's ironic because wasn't 'mod' all about shaking off the constraints of the past and ambracing the future wasn't it?

Same goes for that Gallagher oaf with his Paul Calf-esque feathercut, and (to a lesser extent) his brother.

Had a similar conversation with Young Sober Dan at Oldham. Wiggins obviously wasn't around at the start of the whole Mod thing but him and the other media Mod revivalists, are picking different styles from the era to look the part. The whole 'we want to be different' philosophy did become tiresome when everyone, eventually, looked the same. Hence the progressive fashion tradgedies of the seventies. Anyone who makes an effort these days to look smart should be congratulated.

Not sure what this has to do with the Labour leadership though. ????

Bolty said Michael Foot was a scruffy c*nt - heresy.

Anyhow, I believe each to their own to a large extent, I suppose he doesn't look too bad (Wiggins), Bolty shouldn't have badmouthed Mr Foot drawing first blood, nobody, I mean nobody, could wear a donkey jacket with more panache. :)

Back in the day, I know some people who could wear a donkey jacket with POW trousers and actually make it look good. ????

Yes, Mr. Foot for one...

Here he is, just prior to joining Dexys...

Michael, the lover

Michael, the lover

Are you alluding to the affair he had in his sixties with a woman of 30-ish?

And did you know he was the oldest registered player on a football league squad?

(Plymouth Argyle registered him as number 90 for that birthday)

Boby - whilst all of your points are spot on (as usual), can I give you the advice my paternal influence (maternal grandfather) gave to me.

Never argue with an idiot. He will only bring you down to his level.

Sounds like Corbyn really is going to win. I can't decide if it's funny or scary that so many people think the same way as him.

When the French Socialist Party's Francois Hollander won their presidential election in 2012 with a pretty radical manifesto it was predicted by some that the lights would be out by the end of the week. They seem to be cracking on ok.

Except 400,000 of their highest earners have moved here!

I thought they were treading water at best? Plus Hollande is left wing but this scruffy fella is a full on spacky winged nutjob. That said, he seems like a really nice and principled guy when I heard him on the wireless but not the man to run our country.

Nooooo.....they're paying good money to us!

I love him, personally

They are clearly divided on which particular leader would best keep the party out of power for another couple of generations. Whichever arrogant, unelectable zealot they choose to lead them will make a huge difference on how the Labour party`s obituary is written.

The fact it takes fucking months to select a leader and the whole process is a farce, yet they want electing to run the country! Them and their magic money press. Fuck off.

Hrmm! i wouldn't be too sure. I was of the same opinion but as Bolty said any long standing government eventually gets kicks out. i know the scots thing has screwed things but conservatives only polled 25% of the eligible vote. 'given that they have an agenda that looks to be hammering the 18 to 30 year olds and more importantly those who could not be arsed to vote, they are in danger of riling 15 to 20 % of electorate who didn't vote last time. These together with the young guns i alluded to might make it an interesting election come 2020.

As soon as you start earning, you soon forget.

As soon as you start earning, you soon forget.

trouble is a lot are not earning, once their income is halved they might wake up and think about voting. As  for the young uns i'd normally agree but i reckon by 2020 there will be riots that make the recent usa ones look like tea parties.
