My lad has a Cnoc 16 and middle un has a Beinn 24. Pricey but worth the money and as Homo says they hold their value really well.

I've just sold my Banshee Spitfire and built up a ht for the winter, will be ordering a Bronson CC early next year.

The Trance X4 was around  a grand when it was came out 6 years ago, a 2015 is around £1300 new.If it's an older one and it's a bit battered and needs £150 throwing at it, then maybe not.

Anything newer that doesn't require any parts, then yes.

Excellent bikes

they relisted it and whacked the price up (even though it didn't sell at 300)

Current prospects are

Giant Railato at 140 (second hand)

Rockrider 520 (250)

Gt lts @ 250 (second hand)

or a Ribble road bike at 250 (second hand)

be nice to have a new bike with no issues, just get on and ride...

still cant decide if mtb or road bike is the way forward, being 18 stone road bijes are not really meant for people my size

Swanny if you're undecided then buy a cheap MTB and see how you like it, personally I love it & lost 2 stones in the first 3 months - that was 5 years ago and I've never put any back on despite eating and drinking whatever the fuck I want.

If you don't take to the MTB then try a road bike, I find road biking incredibly boring but each to their own.

Whether you choose a MTB or road bike,if you buy one of the top 10 "brand" names, you can almost guarantee getting 70%  of your money back when you sell it.

Specialized

Trek

Giant

Cube

Cannondale

GT

Kona

Orange

Scott

Canyon

Maybe throw in Boardmans,Commencal,Yeti,Lapierre and a couple of others into the mix and you won't go far wrong went it comes to selling on.

I've headed towards road bikes again, been to look at a few second hand bikes and they were all hammered...

Road bikes seem to be looked after a lil more, then maybe keep my eye open for a decent mtb down the line.

Had a CX bike for a while but couldn't get on with it, was great for bridleways/canals etc but wasn't much fun taking it down San Marino a couple of times.

What's your budget out of interest?

You rode a CX down the San Marino?

Kinell, it's hard enough on a decent Full Suspension, i've seen plenty come a cropper riding down there even on decent Mountain bikes.
