  • You saw the situation and decided to move away. IMO your desicion to abandon shop makes your views on any solution irrelevant.   It ain't flippant just my opinion.

Are you one of those disinfected voters?

  • I am with Cheese on this, I vote at every election, even is only to write swear words on the ballot paper. The Euro elections with 9 candidates was a challenge but pissflaps let me use every box.

Flippant remarks are just what we need pal. That will fix the problem. FFS, grow up.

One of the considerations when I was offered a move here was precisely this. With immigration as it was, what future could I see for my children? Not much and I believe I have been proved very right in making the move.

Still saddens me to see such a wonderful country going down the tubes but you carry on with your snide remarks if it makes you feel better about things matey.

I like reading Balti's views on these things, provides a link to the past, my Grandad was of the same generation, although he'd be 107 if he hadn't died 25 years ago.

Nah, it's a protest far stronger than not bothering. Scutters don't bother, they announce how many ballot papers were spoilt. They should have to list how and why.

Actually they do, although not into the detail you'd like.

I don't see the country slipping down the tubes though Bolty. I just see it changing to reflect the way the reality of the world is nowadays.

And I've no problem with people speaking their mind - I have my own opinions about levels of immigration levels which I've expressed on here before. What I have got a problem with is folk being described using words usually reserved for vermin.

Kent, you seem to be getting your knickers more in a twist over a word than the dire state of the town. That's a shame.

I've just looked up the Cambridge definition.

"To cause a problem by being present in large numbers."

All isn't rosy in Bolton, unless you walk around with blinkers on, reports of groups of full grown 'men' openly ogling (more?) schoolgirls are true...

I'm sure they're a minority of a minority, but do we want them in our town, some of these are from EU, there's cheap housing and freedom of movement so f*ck all we can do about it...

The Gateway Protection programme is another matter, like rat shit in food, what level of numbers of groomers among the legitimate and law abiding is acceptable?

This is coming from a leftist cable member, before anyone points out white British born nonces.

Some of these 'men' and their behaviours are 'known' to the O.B. - there's little they can do at present.

We should open our doors to anyone decent who's genuinely fleeing danger, but should not accept some of the scums of the earth unquestioningly, volte-face rant over.

I don't think the town IS in a dire state. It's not perfect - but what Northern industrial town is?

And I reckon we must have different versions of the same dictionary.

Mine says.....

'(of animals or insects that cause disease) to cause a problem by being present in large numbers.

As in - the barn was infested with rats.'

Is it really "going down the tubes" as you put it?  -  could things be better, undoubtedly, but it's far from being anywhere near as bad as some would have you believe

Unfortunately other northern industrial towns are suffering the same fate as Bolton so you're looking at a tallest dwarf competition.

If you don't think it's in a dire state then no wonder you're more offended by semantics than the reality.

I'm on my phone so can't really post links but some of the behaviour isn't really what civilised folk do, the rubbish dumping in folks own back streets. We pay for the clean up. I don't often see it being John Smith or Dave Brown. It's Disgusting.

Let's shout racist though.

As Ralph McAteer once sang...

'Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets by Burnden, I'll show you some things that'll make you change your mind'

I keep my nose to the ground. I'm like Al Pacino in 'The Devil's Advocate' - the town's a shithole. Bury looks like shangri fucking la in comparison - and that's saying something.

Edit: that's not for Nb, it's for the 'we're no different to Rochdale' posse :)

Exactly.

It's not the word per se - it's the intention behind the word. Rats infest, maggots infest, cockroaches infest. Throwaway remarks l

ike that dehumanise folk.

Which rule of Saul A 's is that ? 13 ? doesn't work anymore, a shitload of people just voted for trump inbetween holocaust memes.

some places are rum and I feel for the decent folk who can't afford to move away from these areas

Sometimes, I can't work out what language you're speaking mate. It looks like English, but I have no fucking idea what you're saying.

He's referencing "Rules for Radicals" by Saul D Alinsky. (I think it may have been in his 'A' level reading, or maybe he found it on a bus or train).

But what does this mean?

He's on about a book called Rules for Radicals. I'd never heard about it till he mentioned it on here about a month back but he seems to be under the impression that I'm an aficionado.

Rule no 13 is.....

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions."

I'm not quite sure how that's relevant? I've got visions of Rimmer quoting space corps directives.

NB - yes sorry but on this occasion - infestation talk = me playing race card.

Andy Burnham standing for Lord Mayor of Greater Manchester, he need's to sort out the drug ridden poverty town of Leigh first.

Tough one as they're all voting for him mate. Never understand the mentality of Leythers who complain about it being a shithole but can't bring themselves to vote anything but the party that's been in since the roundheads stopped to get pissed in the George and Dragon.

Brilliant Ani, just brilliant!!

I too am chuckling. He's always been quite funny for a communist and I do enjoy his 5 minute matchday put the world right rants in chinkychento ????????

Mate drive down Halliwell or Astley bridge on a Friday afternoon and tell me the same.

Once decent areas with hardworking local people is now a fucking hovel created by Clifford's gateway utopia.

I started at Sharples in 82, they were shitholes then, and I'm from Tonge Moor!

Opposite our Primary School Carlos....early 80s.....that was as rough as it got

Viva De Lacey Drive!

In G/L circles, Mancroft Avenue was a name to conjure with in the 80s, then I had the pleasure of actually living in it's successor for being 'rough' during the late 90s - The Paulhan Street Estate...

They both seem like f*cking Ramsay Street in retrospect.

Chorley old road, all down oxford grove...

I don't feel safe around there at night, as the main problem is that the migrants tend to walk around in groups... they probably aren't up to much but its intimidating all the same.
