Say hi to Katie B, poor lass always has looked like her dad.  As for going self employed, I did it 3 years ago and I'm glad I did. Not as much money coming in but much better quality of life.

Sounds a good way to squirrel away some extra cash????

Does the wife not throttle you if she doesn't have to be up?

She's normally already at work :D

that's alright then :) Does my fruit in when I hear the snooze button get hit. Set it for the proper time you wanker instead of waking me up too!

I'm lovely as a girlfriend me :D

The wife would sleep through a bomb so my alarm doesn't even register.

Although my alarm usually wanders in at 7 saying 'I'm not so tired anymore'

Body clock tends to set itself to wake up a bit before alarm's due. Really annoying. Might just get back off again after a piss then it goes off!

As I said previously it took me 3 years to get over not going in to the same place I'd been going into for 32 years. Its was like a panic thing. Now the only thing I miss is the camaraderie of ex colleagues. But even then most of the best ones had retired or left by the time I went.

Loads to do every day. Get up and think what shall I do today? Just spent today walking around  my old haunts I used to play as a kid in the 60's and 70's near the old Lomax paper mill around Blackshaw Brook near Bradley Fold, followed by a few pints sat outside in the sun at the Hare & Hounds in Holcombe Brook.

Best of luck ST - I'll have the money to do the same when I'm about 79 :-)

Thanks mate

Should add that despite my inability to save money or build a £1.6million nest egg (How the fuck???), I wish ST all the best and am always pleased to see a chap do well for himself.

Proves it can be done.

Love stories like this. You've worked hard mate. Hope you now take the time to enjoy yourself. If my missus business kicks on as planned I'm looking at leaving my job in the next 2 years to follow my dream (not sure what that is yet but it's not what I do now) and I've only worked 18 years :(

I am sure it will happen T. Everyone should have hopes and dreams and maybe one day they will come true

It helped that I made three consecutive Venture capitalists who owned us a shed load of money and three different CEO's millionaires.

Cheers all...it could be tricky getting out of the 6 month notice period so i have a bit to go yet.

Whats the company sickness policy like?  ;)

Not 6 months of full pay sadly. I really want to leave on good terms so i will play by the book on this one but i'd be lying if i said it hadn't crossed my mind

Should have called in for a brew! It would have been a good reason not to go moss killing.

I'm 33 years old and still find it a chore getting out of bed.

I must press snooze about 38 times.

Did you ever consider a REALLY early night once a week?

Good work.

The only venture capitalists I've ever dealt with were shite

Thought about it R but got carried away rediscovering my youth. Lot of groundwork went on around there and given the size of the new trees must have been the early 80's. Amazing how concrete structures that were new in the 60's are moss grown and now hardly visible under moss. Adds credence to the theory that modern cities would be all but invisible after 1000 years.  Found the mossy ruins of Crows nest farm though which pleased me no end.

Surprisingly the landscaping was more recent than that- some of the trees were thinned out a couple of years back; you've probably burned bits of them!

Its difficult to remember exactly how it was, but holes in the concrete floor over the stream were certainly a hazard- wouldn't be allowed now. Also remember thousands of tiny white pellets in the soil- not sure if they were ceramic or plastic or what, or what they were used for.

Don't get escaped cattle now, but deer are expanding their range into the area from Darcy and the gravel pits.

The stables on crows nest are my source of horse shit.

Good luck ST hope it works out I've been planning baling out for 4-5 years I might go in 2 years but definitely 5 years if I can stick it out that long. Bought my place in Spain with one eye on quitting there as it's cheaper lifestyle.

I think the irony has been lost on some at the fact that you see your future outside of the UK despite your passionate criticism of the EU.

For the record, and getting back to the thread, I have a place in Prague. My plan was to move there in 2-3 years time. Pre Brexit, it all seemed straightforward but now, I have no idea now how things will develop. As I bought it before they became a member of the EU, there is no problem with ownership but things like healthcare and residency are both uncertain.

Even after retirement, I'll still want to do something.

A two week holiday (once in 17 years) is enough for me so doing nothing for the rest of my life after retirement is not something I'm contemplating.

I must admit I'd not noticed :-)

Mounts - are you really suggesting that after all this - you're now planning on moving back INTO the EU?

Another irony is that after Brexit, it will probably be harder for younger people in the UK to buy or live in the EU.

I think the analogy is pulling up the drawbridge.

Could be a wise move. If the EU starts to crumble, and the euro falls dramatically , then he might get loads of his sterling. Lifestyle becomes comfortable and presto!

A master plan all along!

Alternatively it might not and he'll be stuck going to the macron.

Woah

Now, I'll admit that I think Mounts is as baffling on this issue as anyone I've seen, but if a fella wants to hang his hat in another country when he retires then that's fair enough.

Correct. I didn't say it was wrong I said it was ironic. The fact that future generations may not have the same opportunities is wrong.

Mounts has a place by the golf course next to a village where I spend a week or two every summer. The local ex-pat residents message board was full of pro-Brexit sentiments before the vote, baffling.

Did you ever consider a REALLY early night once a week?

Should do really.

If our peg is working it's bed for 10pm, but then piss about talking to you deuch bags on here :D

When she's off I go to the gym 9pm- 10pm. Which isn't ideal whatsoever.
