Say hi to Katie B, poor lass always has looked like her dad.  As for going self employed, I did it 3 years ago and I'm glad I did. Not as much money coming in but much better quality of life.

Sounds a good way to squirrel away some extra cash????

Who'd want to retire in f*cking Serbia? Arkan or Doctor Karadick or one of those mad fellas?

Now Albania, now you're talking, one can get a lovely little pad there on the Albanian Riviera for £30k...

Can you really?

Less than 10 miles from Corfu

I'd be interested

Just say you were a mate of Norman Wisdom and you could live like a king.

To live or are they in the EU? Nah, not point scoring, I probably couldn't afford to live where I'd like to in America, plus foreigners can't bear arms, which would rule out of my dream of doing fancy shootin' with an assault rifle in my spare moments...Dunno about Turkey, not seen much, Istanbul? Nah yer alreet, thanks.

His son even, you could live like Idi Amin's little scotch mate.

better than some enclave of little englanders in spain (or further afield :) ) spouting about integration

I did hear that the apartment in question may have fallen into the despicable hands of Jimmy Nail.

I'm going on a bit of a mooch later in the year, getting the ferry from Italy and down through Albania to, eventually, Corfu then either fly home or home via Athens...I'll report back if I make it without being kidnapped for organ harvesting or worse.

Buying property outside of the EU is not as easy as you think. Being part of the EU and buying in the EU as it stands is easy.

I've been looking into buying outside the EU and it looks pretty straight forward. I'm not sure what will happen post brexit Europe wise but the Bahamas used to be part of the British empire and they're happy to take our money.

Bahamas. Someone's doing well

Buying property in a country and living in a country can be two different things. It depends on the country, just as it will be here.

At the moment, in the EU, anyone from a member country can own property and live in a member state without visas and can also take advantage of the healthcare system in that country. No one knows at this stage if that will continue.

You could get a little 1 bed apartment in land in a typical Spanish village with no Brits for not much more than that. Winter weather is better in Spain and the red wine as you know is cheap and magnificent also you have to bear in mind plentiful and cheap flight availability for those reasons I wouldn't even consider Albania.

I have had zero trouble building the portfolio either in or out.

In a few years time, I will be spending at least half of the year in and around Europe. Many reasons, not least more incognito trips to watch BWFC.

I'm not sure all those poor fuckers who had their homes torn down in Spain because they retrospectively changed the rules think being in the EU made things easier.

I don't know the hassle involved but is it really harder for say a Russian than a Pole to buy a property here in the EU?

Russians everywhere across the southern coastlines of Europe.

Well R we only did the Tong Rd little lever side of the park.  Cant get my head around those trees growing so high unless they were planted in the 80's. Not sure what the pellets would be was those on the Beightment side or LL side of the tracks?

We stood on a bridge looking down Blackshaw Brook toward the old paper mill pond was. Back in the 60's you would see no trees from the vantage point but now you can hardly see the stream for trees.

as an aside I told wifey that until the early 70's  Blacksahw brook used to be a differnet colour every day at this point. Being downstream from Ainsworth finishing and Dorma who simply had drainage running half a mile into the brook.

Is that taken between LL and Bmet?  We called it the Bunk

We used to play 'manhunt' and stream jumping down there all the time as kids - loved the place.  It then became a 20/20 drinking and fingering hot-spot and every now and then a good old ruckus with some Bmet lads :)

Wouldn't surprise me if kids don't bother with it these days.

You've set my mind at ease then. I'm moving to Oz!

Seriously though, you know that wouldn't be that easy unless I could fulfill certain criteria.

We'll see how things pan out in the next two years with regard to my intentions of living in Prague.

It certainly is. The "bunk" as we knew it in the 60's was situated down towards the Radcliffe Rd to Darcy Lever end of the brook near the old Seven Stars pub. There were several very large trees on a steep bank and around 6 rope swings which resulted in many a broken limb. Our fingering used to take place amongst the waste paper bales in the storage shed of the mill. :)

This area is indeed older than the bit up my end. The landscaping finished some way short of the bridge at the bottom of the dip, near where castle builders merchants was.

Its full of deer now, back of little lever school etc, but some of the shit coming out of potters hill is frightening!

Aye that used to be a chemical factory until the late 60's. They had to dump tonnes of topsoil over the slag heaps to get anything to grow. Bound to be leachate escaping.

Is the landscaped area still managed? it looked to be like the meadow areas get cut to prevent it becoming too wild.

My memory is not what it was but somat tells me they were processing chromium compounds. They would give some vivid greens and violets.

Yes indeed. Some remedial work was done a few years ago but shit still leaches out.

The meadow areas were managed to protect some wildflowers but not now- cuts!

Some scrub invasion but the meadowsweet keeps coming and I believe it makes a good white wine. Will have a do if I get back in the mood.

Yup chromium is the main one but other nasties in there.

Is sulphur yellow or would that be chromium

In70s you could see it side of hall lane
