It’s gone too deep into our “public” services, mate. They know it and are looking forward to a day they can take their opportunity, paid for by the private sector, of course. As you’ve said before, perhaps each generation needs to learn for themselves that socialism cannot work. It’ll be interesting to see what they try.

Raising taxes will be hard, as pips are already squeaking. Might there be a wealth tax? And once they’ve spunked that? Will they try to sell us that they can manage the public services better? Well, they might get them onside better, but it would need a diagnosis that the public services might not get behind.

As a manager of people myself, I understand that there are times when you have to bollock people. That can come in many guises and I’ve always found a bollocking can differ depending on the individual to whom it is delivered.

Some people react better to the threat of unemployment. And it’s not a nasty threat, it’s a fact. Do the job i pay you to do or you’re out. This tends to be boneidle fuckers who’ve simply lost interest. Tough.

Some people need a more passive bollocking. These are usually people who’ve lost their way and it’s up to the employer to get them back on track. But, it still needs pointing out that they need to perform. It’s fair that, we’re paying them.

But I’ve also worked with managers who only know one way - bullying. That’s when a line is crossed. Actively seeking to ridicule, constantly threaten and demean is not only pathetic, it’s also completely counterproductive.

I can imagine that running a government department is very stressful - especially when it’s a job you’re basicallly given despite the fact you’ve not got the best background for it.

@Mounts Kipper keeps referring to unelected folk - but tell me this: in theory any of the 350 Tory MP’s could get the dep PM job. Yet not a single one of them is qualified.

The whole system is flawed. So dont just back Raab because you like Brexit, explain why he’s the best man for a job he’s clearly struggled to manage.

I don’t think anyone here expects a fluffy existence.

As I say, bollockings are there to be used and should be when needed.

But the civil servants are all qualified and deserving of their positions.

Just because Raab got a few thousand people on the Home Counties to vote for him because he has a blue rosette on and says nice things, that somehow qualified him for one of the most important jobs in the country.

Anyone of us on here could create thread filled to the brim with stories of government incompetence from the past 13 years. Wasted money, terrible leadership, terrible management - from the top to the bottom of the party. Even the staunchest Tories on here have held their hands up at the worst moments. Even the most biased would have to admit that they'll go down in history as one of the most unstable and incompetent governments we've ever had. And that's not to say we can't have and haven't had stable Conservative governments. It's just the reality the recent shitshow. 

Funny how with all that people still can't recognise that it's likely been an absolute nightmare working for them at times.

I expected better from you GD, that is unsubstantiated drivel. This is the worst government of my lifetime. Previous Tory governments managed to work with the civil service fine.  Yet more of everyone's fault but the shower running the country.
