Get a couple of cages to keep them in while you're not at home, orherwise they'll wreck your house. It's not cruel, it becomes their safe little haven and it's even better if they can sleep in there (but not for toilet use) - plus it gives you somewhere to put them when it all gets a bit too much - and it will !!! Enjoy????

To be fair, so far no furniture has been chewed. As we have a wood burning stove, they seem happy to grab a log from underneath and whittle away at that. Not ideal, but its hard wood and doesn't splinter.

 

No problem with the voice tone- its my lad who has a bit of difficulty, but he'll be reet. They are pretty good really in terms of wrecking stuff; I'm popping in and out so they're not left too long and they seem to entertain each other. Big garden is a help, but they are getting ready for more open space.

the best leads for three dogs are the rope style, they don't hurt your hands, the dogs can get tangled and they will walk as a pack.

Long story. Wife and lad have been wanting a dog for ages. Me too, but not been too well on and off for a few years so didn't want the responsibility.

Feeling much better these days, and decided to relent (plus everyone reckoned a dog would be helpful). I said We'd get two so they had a bit of company when we're out at work.

 

Went to collect them, set off home, got a couple of miles down the road and got all soppy. Couldn't leave the last fella from the whole litter, so went back for him too!

 

They are hard work, when they're scrapping and pissing etc, but I reckon they will be great in the end.

Give them a whole carrot to chew on as its good for their teeth and works as a toothbrush

I love Border collies

 

Went to a little farm in north wales once when i was about 10 yrs old and they were selling some pups.

 

One took a shine to me and it just sat on my knee for half an hour, like my new best pal.

 

I was absolutely distraught when my mum and dad said we couldnt buy him. Years later they said they probably should have.

As far as pups go,Border Collies are one of the hardest to deal with and very slow to mature - you probably don't get the best out of them till after 2 or 3 years.

I genuinely wish you all the best with it TMGJ - but as you already know it's going to be very very hard. Sometimes we've found it hard to cope with one BC pup, but things are getting better day by day - mine is from working stock so it's absolutely menkul, but highly intelligent at the same time.

Get 500 poo bags bought - they might last you a few weeks!

Used to use them for working but now as pets.

I've known many of their ancestors, including grandparents and parents. All very soft and friendly.

The pups have got used to people straight away, each day they'd be let out to play and every one would fuss them.

 

To be honest wouldn't have bought pups in any other situation.

Dogs bred from working stock usually have a few "traits" - ours will herd a gang of kids playing football in a park, initially she wanted to herd moving cars too.She's also OCD'd to the max, but as i said before she's also highly intelligent, affectionate, and trains easily.

Border collies bred direct from non working stock  shouldn't have these mannerisms hopefully.

Get yerself to training classes as soon as they are old enough.

Oh and get plenty of kitchen roll and those disposable anti bac wipes from the £1 shop for cleaning up the inevitable mishaps.

I've got a border collie from a working farm too.

 

Trained him early and he's genuinely as obedient as you can get.

 

They take a while but worth the effort. Can't stand seeing people out and about just bellowing at their dogs who pay fuck all attention. Lazy cunts.

 

You'll find that one day it all clicks and it's brill. You can tell they enjoy the commands etc.. gives them something to focus on.

 

 

As mentioned above, you're going to need some serious time dedicated to getting them exercised. However, they don't tire easily but that doesn't mean you need to keep going, just make sure they get an hour a day with a longer run at weekends and they'll be spot on.
