March 13, 20188 yr Sporting Lisbon away - our last game in Europe........ According to the WW PC Brigade.....We play in Europe every week don’t we......
March 13, 20188 yr The team that started was actually a lot better than I remembered Al Habsi, Hunt, Cahill, Meite, Samuel, Joey O'Brien, Guthrie, Teymourian (Braaten 71), Giannakopoulos, Vaz Te, Helguson (Woolfe 76). Subs Not Used: Walker, Harsanyi, Sinclair, Sissons, Jamieson.
March 13, 20188 yr Sporting Lisbon away - our last game in Europe........ What a sad way to end our journey we could easily have won that game with full team and gone on to the final in manchester.????
March 13, 20188 yr Great trip and last of its kind for a very long time. Megson out! Gartside tied his hands with the team selection.
March 13, 20188 yr Gartside tied his hands with the team selection. No manager's hands are tied on selection. If it is attempted they would walk.
March 13, 20188 yr Another great day out Nice that they had a supermarket in the ground; bought chery brandy to consume on the concourse
March 13, 20188 yr No manager's hands are tied on selection. If it is attempted they would walk. Would you walk away from 1 million plus per season wage?

Just facts here, not politics.
March 13, 20188 yr Fuck me - 10 years ago. Great trip. Remember me and mate being under a car under-pass. with bars and food stalls drinking with their scarve wearing ultras...
March 13, 20188 yr Would you walk away from 1 million plus per season wage? When I was managing Stretford AC track & field team I was offered the additional post of Lancashire team manager for the Inter-Counties Championships. I asked who would pick the team. I was told "The selection committee of five (of whom I was one) would continue to pick the team, so you will have strong input". I thanked them for the honour and declined.
March 13, 20188 yr Missed that game 1-shit fan 2- wearing tracksuits in employment at Burnley FC That probably makes me the shitest of shit fans. Went to Wigan on the Sunday though. That was rubbish!
March 13, 20188 yr I was at both Lisbon and the dogshit away perfromance at Wigan on the Sunday. Quite honestly I wasn't that arsed about us going out in Lisbon. On the night we should have won, the team was easy good enough. The debacle at the DW pissed me off 100 times more when KD, Nobby and co didn't fancy it. Megson was and is a shithouse but i don't point any blame at him or PG for either of those results.
March 13, 20188 yr No manager's hands are tied on selection. If it is attempted they would walk. Tend to agree. Garty may have indicated that the league was paramount but that's long term and not picking the team. If he tried to and megson let him then that would make megson a completely spineless tool.
March 13, 20188 yr A disgrace. The starting lineup was maybe, just maybe on a par with some of our other European games. That bench though looks like the rota at fucking Burger King, no hope of changing the game if required. Go for glory, aspire to something once in a lifetime. Play your best team in both bastard games if you have to. A disgrace.
March 13, 20188 yr No issue with throwing the FA cup for Premiership survival but for a once in a lifetime European trophy is outrageous. The start of the decline and why thousands dropped out of our attendances.

Play your best team in both bastard games if you have to. A disgrace. Easy to say in hindsight, and when it isn't your £30M quid at risk. I think that people over-egged the team selection. Every round apart from Atletico we played a fairly weak team. Atletico we were stronger and pulled off a huge coup. But following it we got thumped miserably by Blackburn. I'm sure Eddie and Gartside were getting edgy as we'd got results to give us a decent chance of staying up at that point then went on a bad run with Europe the perceived distraction.

Didn't make it any less easy to watch though or accept as a fan seeing their team in completely uncharted waters going no further when they perhaps ought to have done. I'm happy to be called an over-egger, then. I was pissed off with every weakened XI we put out in Europe, was pissed off with our shite attendances in the competition and was equally pissed off for fans of other "smaller" clubs when they played weakened sides in Europe. Brought home the realisation that finishing 17th every year was the limit of our ambition with any possibility of some glorious cup extras seen as an unwanted distraction.

Potentially the biggest ever game for the club and also some of the players that would / should have been involved.
March 13, 20188 yr Yes, but KD, Nolan etc that hadn't traveled, had the hump - which you can understand. I can't understand that, its fucking inexcusable. The Prem is/was their bread and butter, the whole reason why they are multi millionaires in the first instance and they want to fucking sulk about....Wankers!! They are professional footballers, not fans like you and me. I was a huge KD fan at the time, but as more light has been shed over the years he wasn't quite the honest, Mr BWFC he likes to portray.
