Non Alcoholic Lager

Tried a few recently.

Have to say, there’s some really good quality ones about. To my utter disbelief the Budweiser Probibition is excellent (caveat - needs to be ice cold).

The San Miguel, Brew dog and Heineken are also very good. Becks blue is shite.

And you can drive home. Could get used to it.

What the fuck has happened to this place

  • But made from what? If you make it from proper lager or bitter all you're doing is sweetening and halving the alcohol content per pint. Drink enough and you'll still be over the limit.

Going back to the original topic, I had a bitter shandy t'other day made with Asda's own utter catpiss bitter (90p for four tins, 2%) - made 50/50 with both the catpiss and the lemonade being ice cold

They fucking are! I'll give you your Heinz Ketchups, your Walkers Crisps, your Hellman's mayonnaise - but all the other brands are made in the same factories as the smartprice and value crap - or vice-versa.

And I bet you haven't had coffee from a certain chain since my exposé on here a few years ago...

You just have to tell them you are allergic to urine when you order.

I think his silence speaks volumes...

Don't knock it

Yeah, and then you get special 'cream' in it instead.

i can't be arsed engaging with you.

st james gate brewery has the most stringent quality processes of any brewery in the world.

it brews beers from all other major brewers under licence , which they would not allow , if it were to compromise their quality.

maybe it is your pallet that is fucked after drinking so many cans in bus shelters as a youngster.

My pallet is just fine, it's in the garage stacked with cases of 90p Asda Bitter...

Answer the question, Hophouse Lager, from water, hops and barley to pub or bar tap or bottle - how long?

I'll guess.....6 days

Probably a tad longer...

However look up the definition of lagering.

They're far from alone in mass production, far from it, but it's annoying seeing these massive enterprises jumping on the 'craft' wagon, with prices to match (re: Hophouse - in the pubs, it's reasonable enough in the shops).

hop house is no different than any other beer, there fore i am sure you know the answer.

if you want to google the product , it will tell you where and why it was brewed , where it is in the uk and ireland beer market.

if you prefer kestral lager , good on you.

And the bus shelter comment and crap booze dig :) Never in bus shelters, everywhere else, but no bus shelters, that came later, and I had expensive tastes as a kid, I looked old for my age and first got served at fourteen, so had a good couple of years going for booze for gangs of my peers, for a commission of course.

I got pissed on Sapporo once, when it was about £2 odd a can, from Oddbins on Picadilly Approach iirc. Proper Czech Budweiser and Pilsner Urquell also got supped, I was quite a discerning little nobhead (in my head).

Kestrel Green was the finest drink in the history of mankind - brewed with Saaz Hops :), nah, for mass produced lager? Some of the Polish stuff is alreet, I think Lech is the first one to be a victim of its (polish ale's) rising popularity and a lot is brewed in Holland now under licence, I expect more will follow...

I only single out Hophouse because of the 'craft' image projection. Guinness are far from alone in this however.

Anyway, don't take it so personally, Guinness Original is nectar, I'd love to be able to have about eight bottles, black shits next day an' all...:(

most places I've seen Hophouse it's been a standard lager price

£6 and you've been proper spanked

My mate insisted on meeting up in some hipster place in the NQ t'other week where the fuck they got their beer prices from i've no idea.

Most of my beer bod places are about £3 - £4 a pint wasn't one less than a fiver at this place. he can fuck off if he thinks we're meeting there again.

Sounds like the pilcrow near Victoria.

Sounds like the pilcrow near Victoria.

Just looked and it was called Common, i'll stick with The Brink on Bridge St for my real ale nerdy needs

Pilcrow is nice, closest pub for my work but it costs like 6 quid a pint and 8 quid for a butty.

The £6 price quoted may have been a slight exaggeration - but it was definitely around the 'more than a fiver' bracket - I distinctly remember thinking "I could've got 3x650ml of the same from the Co-Op for that price, but there's no bus shelters around here..." when they gave me my change.

...where the fuck they got their beer prices from i've no idea.

From idiot kids (from here) and southern fucking cunts moving up here, who are paying £5 without complaint and/or going into the bogs and smashing up a sink, handryer or Johnnie machine by way of protest before leaving, that's where (they got the idea).

Wouldn't surprise me if somewhere did charge that though

I like my craft ales but do appreciate the places where the do warn you its an expensive pint before the pour it

Or maybe I just look like a tight cunt

If it's brewed by some craft ale twats in a labour intensive, expensive ingredient and time rich manner then fair enough...

If it's knocked up in a big foil lined vat in six days then they (the breweries) can get to fuck (and any vendor should need a couple of new toilet cisterns - when the truth dawns on the conned punter, and rage takes over)

Meldrew has droned on for what seems like an eternity about 'arty farty shite'

Piss funny now Guinness pretend to be at it

On the subject of Polish ales, do you lot get Perla up there?

Chmielowa and Mocna are bloody dangerous!

As TMGJ writes they sell Perla at most Polski (or Kurd) Skleps...

There's one on Lever Street, nice folk, it used to be The New Cabin pub, which sells every Polish (and other central/eastern European) lager - everything used to be around a quid a can; Tyskie, Zwyiec, Perla, Zubr, Gambrinus, Kozel etc. but thanks to those meddling kids at HM Customs & Excise they're now anything up to £1.60...

All the tramps and street drinkers now shun Tennents Super, Special Brew etc. which are now priced sommat daft like three quid a can, in favour of Karpackie 9% - which must hit the spot for them at a refreshing half the price of their UK trampjuice equivalent.

I think Mocne just means 'dark' rather than being a brand though.

Edit: just read the post properly, I think the second of the two mentioned is a sub-trampjuice strength one I've noticed, around 7% iirc...could be full hobo though, t'other is the premium strength one.

Thing is they do something extremely well, but they just can't help wanting a bite of the lager market (formerly) and now the arty farty (or faux arty farty) beer market.
