I'm warming to Southgate

Seems to know his team, know his tactics and has a calm approach.

Obviously i'll deny this post the second the ref blows the whistle on a 0-0 result against Panama.

But for now, there's a sense of cautious optimism from a settled looking squad.

You never fucking know.

absolutely bang on

i was very critical and sceptical of his appointment but he has shown since day one they are working to a particular plan, formation and style wise

he hasnt been afraid to make some tough decisions (which i thought he would never do being an FA 'yes man') and so far those decisions have been justified.

also, the squad seems to be the most harmonious we have had since 96? the players seem to believe in what he is trying to implement. no Ego's, no big time charlies. The team is definitely greater than the sum of its parts

we have always sailed through qualification and performed well against the bigger countries in meaningless games. just hope they can replicate that in the games that matter for once. Potentially last 16 against Senegal / Poland then maybe Brazil / Germany in the QF's.

id say that was a success but who knows.....

Aye.

I'll hold my hand up - thought he was a poor appointment but he's proving me wrong, which is rather nice.

Quite like the cut of his jib now.

All I want is to see us be positive, play to our strengths (i.e. attack with pace and take risks up top) and be 'savvy'.

If we get off to a good start and don't freeze when it matters I'll be happy :)

Are Brazil all that special?

They may well prove me wrong but I'm not getting why they're so many folks' favourites.

Can't see past Spain or Germany myself.

That said, looks like they'll prob meet Germany before the final so may have a (rather large) score to settle . . .

Only remembered Italy weren't there last night!   Completely forgot!  And that Costa Rica topped our group last time out - gun to my head I'd have said they went out with us but, tbf, gave up any interest after the Uruguay game.
