1889-2018 average crowds; Bolton 16,947, Preston 13,128. Seasons in top flight; Bolton 73 Preston 46

Bit unfair as we've had more seasons in the top flight. Better one;

1889-1961 Bolton 18,654 Preston 15,340. Seasons in top flight; Bolton 55 Preston 46

Still a bit unfair. Have to go back a way to even things up;

1889-1925 Bolton 14,145 Preston 10,193. Seasons in top flight, Bolton 28 Preston 28.

I just don’t get the attraction of our place for a big jolly. 

It must shit for an away fan. There’s never any trains and you have to walk past the ground to the nearest and only pub. 

Preston on the other hand is a belting away...

It’s fucking embarrassing . I live in Preston and always have pre-match drinks with some PNE mates for both games. Spoilt for choice in Preston and am out for 12 hours usually. Home game means Coast to fucking Coast , or Frankie & bastard Benny, with one poor designated driver.

Once the trains are back running away fans can drink in manchester, Bolton, or Chorley, step off the train at 2.55 and be in their seat by kick off, is there any other ground so close to a train station in the country?

None now but town’s walking distance. Moorbrook is a great pub, quite close and breaks up the walk

Predominantly a Muslim area now, Deepdale...so pubs struggled getting punters in on non-matchdays. Which obviously isn't sustainable. 

St Greg's and Deepdale labour clubs are still going though. Both a 2 minute walk from the ground.

Think only 2 remain on Meadow Street as well now.

Last time we went in a town centre beer garden then let all the daft lads walk out, immediately get kettled all the way to the ground while we availed ourselves of the off licence around half way point of the walk.

I would imagine it's a similar  story at a lot of northern football grounds, i mean the ones that haven't relocated to a new stadium.

Attendances are a decent way of judging the old "how big a club are we" given it kind of builds in success and fan base.

Founder members are a bit disadvantaged as attendances for the first decade or so were pretty shite.

For anyone interested, here's our average attendances and rank split into 3 periods - the first decade or so, up to abolition of maximum wage and since.

1889-1899 average 7,000, rank 9th

1900-1961 ave 21,168 rank 15th

1962-2018 15,090 rank 29th

Went in St Greg’s last season with PNE fan, was like going back to the 70s. Enjoyed it though. 

At a wedding so we will win.
