October 12, 20196 yr It's all bollox this. What next? Someone doing the same on a treadmill in Virgin Active 🤔
October 12, 20196 yr He probably needs to race Bekele at Berlin, given he just went within 2 secs of Kipchoge's official WR. I was glued to the TV watching this, despite the naysayers a wonderful achievement.
October 12, 20196 yr A bloke just ran 26 miles in under 2 hours and people are having a pop??? Fucking Nora.

Id do the iron man but I’m not a strong swimmer and you need your head testing really to do it It was the cycle course this year that did it for most. Absolute cunt of a route. My cousin got timed out as did around 1/3 of the field including some seasoned entrants who reckoned the course was overly hard

Yes. The IAAF has only recently ratified records for road races. There are rules regarding course measurement, separation distance between start and finish points, and elevation drop between same. As long as these are all met (along with the normal rules for racing) then they can be ratified, with the accompanying benefits.

They have some good hidden training setups out of the way in the hills of Kenya, look how much Farah benefitted from no-one being able to check what he was up to. Don't need doping to explain this one. His effort was a 2:03 marathon in terms of physical input, with the rest made up by Nike's spring sole shoes
October 12, 20196 yr I wonder what he could do a marathon in if it was all down hill, 1:55? Youd need to find a suitable mountain range like, the Oxygen levels up high might take a bit out of him

October 12, 20196 yr He's 100% a really good runner regardless of anything else, probably the best marathon runner ever.
October 12, 20196 yr He's competed in 12 race marathons, won 11 and was 2nd in the other. I know of no other athlete with such an impressive marathon record.

Olympic medals - gold, silver and bronze. World Track - gold and silver. World Cross-Country - gold. World Indoor - bronze. Eight Major city Marathon wins (London 4, Berlin 3, Chicago 1).

Abebe Bikila. Won 12 of his first 13 Marathons, including Olympics in 1960 and 1964 (the latter a few weeks after having appendix removed). His only defeat was Boston 1963, where he was on record schedule for 75% of the race before succumbing to icy winds and finishing fifth.
October 12, 20196 yr Why didn't he run it downhill with a tail wind behind him? He would have done it even quicker. Contrived world records like the one we are talking about don't impress me, sorry.

October 12, 20196 yr The pacing thing. Pretty much every track world record from 800m to 10000m is paced to the nth degree. The only WR I can think of that wasn't paced was Rudisha in 2012.

I can only think they used so many for commercial reasons. Minimum they'd need would be a set for two half marathons as plenty can run one hour half marathons. If they were using 7 at one time, makes 14.

All the 42 pacemakers were Nike sponsored athletes wearing Nike vests with Ineos printed on the front as well as the swoosh. Some of the teams only covered short stages of 2 or 3 kilometres, others did 8k. So it was easy to keep up with a laser beam at the required pace. I don't think 'plenty' describes the number of athletes in shape to run that pace at this time of year in Vienna, the more so if you restrict it to Nike sponsored ones. The event was held on the first planned day, but it would have been delayed for up to 8 days if better conditions seemed likely.
