Trouble on the terraces

Between which years would you say Bolton had their finest mob(s)?

In recent years it has been horrendous to see the likes of Wigan, Burnley, Blackburn Preston et al take the piss at our place.

Which years would these teams have dreaded most a visit from Bolton.
On our day how did we compare to our neighbours and more notorious mobs like stoke, Birmingham, Sheffield United?
Were we known Nationally for having a bad reputation?

Keep going lads, some of the stuff you talk about is before my time but stuff from the early 70s on has brought back a good few things that I'd either forgotten about or brought up some shared memorie

Notts one way, Grantham and Skeggy other direction... which I never thought until recently would come in handy for a league game but Lincoln and now Grimsby are in easy reach.

That Norwich-Liverpool line stops here too so can get back to Manc it just takes forever.

Before I started driving up I used to catch that Norwich - Livrrpool whenever I came to a game , it used to take a couple of hours with changes. Never any trouble on there ( always too bloody crowded) and the main fans were United supporters group from Chesterfield.

The only near trouble was when we played West Ham in the premier (Okocha goal game) , and the West Ham fans had to catch the Norwich bound train because of engineering works on their normal route , fucking hell that was hairy when the United lot made themselves known , a very nasty atmosphere. I actually ended up near the West Ham lot on the train , and with it being a red hot day I only had my T- Shirt on and I totally forgot about my Bolton Tattoo on my Forearm , which one of them spotted when I was holding the pole for balance. I thought it would get a bit naughty for me , but after some leg pulling they gave me a couple of beers and we started chatting about the game. I've never been so glad to get off a train , but generally it's a quiet but busy line.

I went Meadow Lane this/last season, improved hell of a lot since my last visit watching Bolton. Pubs in the city are still bang on but devoid of any County fans milling about.

Yes it's a good ground now , whenever I went watching us in the 80's/ 90's it was on one side of the terrace behind the goal . We may still play them yet , i think they are in the conference play offs.

All this talk of Nottingham and no fucker has mentioned Colin bastard Cooper :(

Were both his goals last minute? , I know the Burnden one was. On the subject , I seem to remember we conceded loads of last minute goals that season.

Think we lost 26 points in the last 10 minutes that season.

Colin cooper home and away, QPR dichio, Everton Rideout....that’s just off the top off my head.

Up to the play off game, i think we were on the open end but for the 1-6 cup pasting we were in the side terrace......in the BN there was a picture of Bolton fans there like pakis in a Datsun while the rest of the ground was fairly empty. It didn't help that we were on the special so couldn;t make an early start home.

We took loads to a night cup game at Forest a bit later i think & we got pasted there as well.

Nottingham is a good place but I don't remember us winning there too often !!

That night Forest cup game was about 85ish, we will have lost but can't remember a drubbing.

Can remember the junction off the motorway being closed for some reason and long before sat nav , it was a bastard to get back near the ground from the next junction.

Nottinghamshire was a police zone state during the Miners Strike in 84/85 turning folk round on the M1 if you didn't have a decent excuse for entering the County.

We lost 4-0 , but like you said we weren't drubbed as such , I think it was 0-0 until 60 odd minutes.

Remember the 3-3 cup game at Forest.

We ripped into them big time that day and they still had a top European team.

Replay at Burnden was the biggest crowd we'd had for years and Trevor Francis went and spoilt it😒

It was the biggest crowd for about 9 months when United brought 15,000 - 20,000 with them at Easter 1980.

Forest's following was poor in numbers that night,They were given the Manchester Rd side of the Embankment and they'd probably have all fit in one of the small sections next to the Paddock

The team we had 2 years later in the Premier would have pissed staying up in 95/96 in my opinion.

am sure I read something like if games finished after 80 mins that season (or 75) we'd have finished comfortably midtable

I reckon we'd have stayed up from the off had we not had McFarland hanging around till Christmas

Just looking at the table the lost points would’ve put us around 12th with the likes of Leeds & boro

Great work mate.

Some gut wrenchers there. Remember Blake missing a sitter at Blackburn at 1-1 30 seconds before they whack two in.

The Forest one at home really gutted me. I think it was one of them fixtures where we played away then home in the space of around 5 weeks. For the same player to do us in the last minute both times was a sickner

I'm sure The Forest home match was well over 90 minutes , it was a real killer.

No worries pal , after the first 6 months   I never thought Blake would turn out to be the striker he did.
