July 18, 20206 yr I was at uni there. Lived in a house in dore the first year. 20 mins on the bus or 5 minutes on train to the centre - probably a bit pricey - but nice and no riff raff. halls of residence in totley, a bit further out, but still nice. lived other side of the city for 2 years in crookes - more studenty but nice all the same. All down hill to the centre. never thought hillsboro side was great and round bramhall lane not great - but city is superb, easy to get to (rail, motorway)
July 18, 20206 yr Always drank in the Howard back in the day. Globe is good. Through the underpass is a pub that that had different shaped pool tables. West street is also good. Tram, dog track, uni, 2 football teams, ski slope, meadow hall - not a bad word to say really

Brewery taps, old town pubs, bars built into former mills etc. I know a few go to Kelham Island on Sheffield aways while everyone else stays in Tap or a Spoons, and now I know why. Unfortunately done some further research tonight on the houses we really liked on there and it has priced us out completely (14 grand for a car parking space?!) A bit gutted, but we go on. We intended on going to Kelham Island the when we played Sheff Weds away when Wilbraham equalised late on. Never made it because we ended up in so many decent pubs en route. Definitely in my top three boozing towns. Which is a bit weird considering the first time I went there we only went to the Tap and the Howard so naturally thought it was bobbins (I do like the Tap, but can’t afford to stay for more than a pint!)
July 18, 20206 yr For some reason, whenever I have stopped in the tap and drank their odd brews I have come home mullered - so I try to avoid there if I want to avoid dribbling when I get home.

It's well worth a visit next time you're in Sheffield to drink, best get an uber though if there's too many temptations on the way! Really want to come away from just funneling into the nearest Spoons then the designated away pub until 14:59 but by doing that you often take yourself out of the main bulk of people and atmosphere.

I was in them 95/96 then hunters bar / ecclesall road, nice but hilly Then just off Bramhall lane, fine for students but not many welcoming locals

We’ve found exactly that approach has worked a treat to be honest

Some lads i know developed an app called Neverspoons It shows you your nearest whetherspoons then alternative "independent" pubs close by Early days and a lot of pubs need to be manually added, verified and listed At the moment it suggests the Balmoral as a viable alternative in Bolton

We used it in Chester last week, It did seem to be quite a new thing but hopefully it carries on growing.

July 19, 20206 yr Mosborough seems a nice place quite a lot of new builds in area and quite a village feel even though its only 10 mins from centre. Also Whirlow is very nice and again 5 minutes down the hill to town centre. I delivered around Sheffield for about 6 months late last year .
July 19, 20206 yr Lived in Broomhill and Crookesmoor as a student for 4 years. Just moved out of kelham island after living there for a year, like you said its not cheap but there’s loads of good places. Currently just moved upto Crookes, it’s a bit studenty in parts but as you get further up the hill its more families than students. Really nice place to live, as others have said lots of nice parks and so close to the peak district. Happy to PM if you need any advice or have any more questions,
July 19, 20206 yr Lived Broomhill, Crookesmoor, Walkley early to mid 80’s as a student. Would happily have lived on in Sheffield but got a job in Cheshire. Spend a lot of time back in Sheffield with work (not at the moment obvs) and would happily move back. Great city to live in

Crookes has come up a few times now with people I've talked to as has the Ecclesall Road area so going to concentrate on there next. It's a shame to have to give up on the Kelham Island idea, I prefer apartments, partner prefers houses so the eco houses there met us both in the middle really. Will continue research, I'll be sliding into your DMs before long no doubt 😀
