Dogs and the vets

Dog started with a slight limp (back leg) Saturday morning. No obvious injuries or anything stuck between toes. Gradually got worse so I've booked him into the vets. Earliest I can get is Wednesday. He's only 1, so it's not old age.

Given his paws a salt bath and trying to make him rest. Anyone got any advise to try and help the poor lad?

I can cope with poorly humans but not with poorly animals 😢

He is by far the smartest  animal I have ever and probably will ever meet. He has relearned most of his tricks and commands with hand gestures . He never leaves my side unless it is my doing. I will be ripped in two when I lose him . He has been with me through some of the lowest points in my life but he has given me the best of his. As hard as I know it will be when the end comes I shall be with him it is the least you can do.  I love dogs I always have. The best friend a man can have.

Mate, absolutely beautiful words and exactly how I was when my girl went last year.

Still got the spaniel here who's 15 now but can barely walk. Actually in fucking tears posting this.

If only our pets could talk, absolutely fucking heartbreaking 😢 ♥

Hold onto every minute pal. You will know when it is time as will I with mine. Saying goodbye is gut wrenching but when it is time it is time. I lost the collie that I had before this guy at 15.5 yrs and I reckon if he could have talked he would have told me it was time to go. The hardest of days when it comes but we owe it to them make the end as comfortable as possible.

Absolutely mate,  currently sat here with Toby aka Dusty Bin, as he's affectionately known because he will eat anything and everything,  poor fella,  his legs have gone.  Going to miss my best pal.

Like I said earlier, just wish our pets could talk and say when it's time to say goodbye, I hate the thought of them suffering silently 😢 x

Currently enjoying a Sunday morning lie in

Never understood why some owners don't let their dogs upstairs or on beds or other furniture

Getting cosy with them is all part of the fun

When got our dog it was not allowed upstairs and certainly not on the bed. She is now 13 and we have bought bedroom furniture so it is easier for her to jump on the bed.

Wouldn't normally let them on to the bed.

Arguments that you are allowing them an "equal" status that might not be ideal.

With ours battling a bit at night, we've now relented, and allow one into the room.

He's happy enough on the deck though.

it's not provided any issues in 9 years, so we're good on that front

he's started sleeping alongside my eldest as well, which she loves

if we have guests, he always wants to sleep with them, but no one minds

he's free to do and go wherever he pleases in the house

i get that some dogs are nobheads, but he's not, so no issues

Sometimes both ours sleep on the bed sometimes neither do. They tend to come and go through the night. They have a bed in the corner of the room, which they also sometimes sleep on. Oddly one of them always seems to be "on duty" with being a guard dog (even though they're a pair of useless cockapoos) and wander round the house and the garden during the night.

Mine has several spots upstairs and downstairs where he sleeps and naps, spends the day moving from one to other

The only issue he has is he Likes to bark at imaginary birds cats and foxes late at night at the patio window

We had a bastard fox screaming it's head off about 4.00 am the other morning.

Right across the road, on a neighbour's driveway.

The dogs went ballistic.

Next door but one too me just had his 17 year old cat mauled to death by one of those Japanese Makita things that slipped the lead at the top of the lane.

Horrendous.

Our Old boy kips on floor next to my side of bed  if i get upnhe follows me. I have just bought him a thicker bed to help his old bones. If anyone of us isnt in he sits about halfway up  the stairs as he can see out of the small window in the front door. He has whoever is in the house behind him and waits for the others to come in before he will retire for the night. Collies are fucking solid

We were fortunate enough to chat to Peter Wright (Yorkshire Vet) a good while back.

A day or two previously, he had sown a cat's leg back together after it had been gripped by a greyhound.

Ah fuck, sorry to hear that mate.

Been well off it today, and, as they seem to know, one of mine came and lay next to me for a while. They know.

Until one of his brothers barked, and be thought something better was going on! 😁

He looks a proper friendly fellow too.

Cheers Rick. Poor Dusty was fine, so to speak given his ailments, until the last few hours, then just couldn't hold out any longer 😢

I think folk who've never had dogs don't understand how rough it is when they go. It's fucking horrible. Lost two of ours last year, know what you're going through.

Like owt else, gets easier in time, and you'll always have the great memories of your time with him.
