The 2020 USA Presidential election

The eve of the maddest show in the world

Two senior citizens battling it out to become the most powerful person in the world

The most decisive election in years, which no matter the outcome, the whole country is anticipating civil unrest.

Yes folks the loonies are well and truly out of the Asylum

Forget the polls, forget what you think will happen one thing for sure is it’s always unpredictable and I cannot wait

Buckle up Dorothy

I think that applies to most of the folk heralding him as the new messiah as well. It’s quite bizarre.

I don't get the impression folk are heralding him as some sort of Messiah. At least not on here.

I don't expect America to heal over night, or for Trump's brand of toxic populism to go away either.

But fuck me it's still a significant result. Scuse the soppyness, but it feels fitting that on a day that we remember all those who died protecting democracy, that a western leader with a clear disregard for that system has been defeated.

And to top it off a party that recognises the existence of climate change.

You don't need to be an expert in American politics to recognise that all this is a step in the right direction.

Being overjoyed that Trump is out isn’t heralding him as a new messiah though is it

I wanted Everton to beat United this weekend. Doesn’t mean I’m gonna get a Duncan Ferguson tattoo

Plenty of examples of people portraying it as far more than a simple  “trump lost” reaction. At least it leaves covid and UK trade policies alone for a while that’s the saving grace in this. But the experts shall return I’m in no doubt.

and personally I couldn’t care less if man United won or lost as it doesn’t affect me and I’m not a supporter of them or Everton. Each to their own though

So you can join in the debate objectively.

But don't use twitter as your main source.

Always glad to help👍

I wasn’t aware there was a debate here that required any knowledge? Is there a hidden thread on this you are reading?

Thank you Paul.

4 years of jubilant "leavers" telling "remainers" to shut the fuck up and get over it has resulted in this.

A large number of leavers are also, for some reason, Trump fans (You are an exception it seems, there will be more).

What you then have are people forcing trump and Brexit joyfully into the faces of anyone who utters of breath of disagreement.

So for Trump to lose, those same people - Miami, Royal, Bolty (i don't mind naming names) - need to understand that the shoe is on the other foot  and there will be a backlash. And that backlash will look VERY familiar.

They just have to suck it up. It's nowt personal, no need for straighteners and we're all friends.

But for now, your man lost, roll with the virtual punches for a bit lads.

Well... I see what you're saying absolutely.

My reply would be that without liberals trying to shut down opinions they disagree with there would have likely been no Donald Trump phenomenon in the first place. The liberal establishment needs to learn the lesson of Donald Trump and it needs to start listening to people instead of sniffily assuming the high ground and assuming it has what's right and wrong sussed out in perpetuity. It's called liberal intolerance and it spawned Donald Trump. As I say, I hope Biden sees that.

Brings us back to that video doesnt it?

Is it allowed to be eternally grateful the most divisive leader of the western world in decades is now no longer in power after making a mockery of the civilised world for 4 years and also think Biden is a bit to old for the job and needs to stop smelling hair?

Do we have to nail our colours to the mast no matter what the subject?

Ah ok. Well crack on with posting on  a subject you have no knowledge of then.

Sounds a bit Trumpish that👍

I’m really sorry but can you point me to the hidden thread where people are posting their knowledge on this? TIA

tbf their are probably two or three folk on here who clearly do have knowledge on this subject, you’re clearly not one of them.
The rest are just knobheads on a football forum.

Yup

Covers every thread on here and beyond

I tweeted a Remembrance Sunday post on Twitter.
An ex / rare poster on here replied that he was surprised if posted it.
Because I’m not a Bojo / Trump fan apparently I cannot support remembrance

The fucktard omitted to think about the fact that I’m actually raising money for the Legion because poppy sales will be down. Literally 2 tweets earlier

It’s a great example of this utter nonsense

Most politicians dont seem to want to answer a simple question, they either sit on the fence or come out with some arse half answer in fear of upsetting people, or the liberals as you have stated further up the thread.

Good post them this morning fella 👍

Don't try to shut down and de-legitimise people who don't share your views. Don't assume your views are sacrosanct and beyond reproach. Debate and argue. Don't censor.

Respect the outcome of elections.

Simple really. Previous generations seemed to do these things effortlessly. We need to get back to that.

Saw a video yesterday of former presidents or presidential candidate conceding defeat, it was very humbling and a sense of pride took over me that you can be gracious in defeat. The John McCain one is tremendous because that was a fierce ugly battle. And he took it like a champ and wished Obama the very best. Takes a lot of pride and honour to do that.

Biden said something I thought was perfect , we are opponents not enemies.

Personally I think there has been a distinct lack of hair smelling on the world stage for some time now. I'm hoping that Biden will be a catalyst for change here.

Perhaps in years to come - world leaders will shake hands and then sniff each others hair at international summits.

Spot on.

Biden making the right noises about engaging with Trump voters. If half of them at least give him a chance, things can be a lot less inflammatory.

We just need Wigan to be gone by xmas and we can all get back to normal.

Yes. And I can't really think of a case in UK general elections where the losing side has resorted to trying to undermine the result and therefore deny democracy. However that did happen after Brexit. The parallels are definitely there. There are quite a few people in this country correctly criticising Trump's behaviour today but airbrushing the fact that they were up to the same tricks after June 23, 2016!

Yeah. You have a vote and accept the result, then get on with it
