The 2020 USA Presidential election

The eve of the maddest show in the world

Two senior citizens battling it out to become the most powerful person in the world

The most decisive election in years, which no matter the outcome, the whole country is anticipating civil unrest.

Yes folks the loonies are well and truly out of the Asylum

Forget the polls, forget what you think will happen one thing for sure is it’s always unpredictable and I cannot wait

Buckle up Dorothy

Copied off twatter.

Summed up for me perfectly...

I’m glad Trump is likely to be gone but remember Trump wasn’t the problem, he was a symptom of a problem that was created by politicians like Biden.

Trump got in for a number of reasons, 8 years of a black Democrat, no fuckin way was America voting in a Woman who the southern states absolutely despise

Very true but Clinton was also despised by a lot of Democrat voters

Hence my initial question, why be tainted with him- get out of his twatdom and wait until he's gone.

To be honest, I'm surprised some of them accepted offers of a position with him, given his tendency to fire on a whim.

Perhaps they just thought he was ace, dunno.

I can't imagine there are too many opportunities in life to take those top jobs

Refuse the first offer, and there might not be a second one

Yep. Said it on here a few years ago. Worked for a US company at the time. All the top execs were Democrat. None of them cast a vote. Hated Clinton and could never vote Trump

Aye. So much wrong with that

I like her, her book is a decent read and saw her at the southbank centre.

She has blind spots, but very bright, very talented and very capable.

Who? Hilary?

Yeah, despite flaws she's overtly demonised in a way others haven't. It does sit right with me so I read her book, the documentary on Sky was a great watch and didn't cover over her bad decisions, and how they would be seen. Such as the money take  for private speaking gigs. However, nothing was illegal. Just a stupid thing to do.

Was lucky enough to see her speak in London after the election, it was interesting, and her thoughts on the missteps that were made were enlightening as well. She's still a very powerful political voice.

Very apt.  Read today that Biden is only the second Catholic President which surprised me.

Have a +1.  Her not being elected was America's great loss.  Not only would she have made a great president, she'd have saved them from the Trump years too.

Really? Did you know Martin Luther King was a ....

Never mind.

Just noticed the music after Biden finished his speech last night was "Higher and Higher". Reminded me of the end of Ghostbusters 2, when the Statue of Liberty walks through the streets of New York, lined with cheering citizens, then uses her torch to defeat a demonic cunt.

More people voted for trump than we have on these shores. These people have lived with his policies and nonsense for the last 4 years all voted for him. America’s issues run much much deeper than a leader  as you elude to.

I don’t think for one minute the Republicans as a party don’t believe climate change exists although one of the 3 or so folk in here that actually know anything about US politics can either confirm or deny this for me? Acknowledging something and doing something about it are two very different things. We all live with issues we know exist and know are detrimental yet still do it. We don’t dent their basic existence.

where have I said it’s not a positive step that trump has now gone? Would be interested to see that view point coming from me which you imply?

They definitely do run much deeper & it was a staggering number of votes that he received. He always looked to keep his promises to those who voted for him. I thought it was interesting to see how he increased his vote share amongst Latin Americans who had previously lived under socialist regimes.

As a party I'm not sure where the Republicans stand or where they will look to stand in the future. I can hardly imagine them taking the steps needed to transition from fossil fuels. It will take Biden at least 3 years just to undo Trump's mess when it comes to the climate crisis. Trump rolled back and watered down dozens of climate policies and environmental protections. He buried climate and clean energy studies, undermined federal scientists and flooded his administration with science deniers. All with the support of the Republican party.

It probably was an overstatement to suggest the whole party doesn't believe in climate change. But after the last 4 years and their historic role in spreading doubt and misinformation, I have very little faith in them to take the action needed.

I didn't mean to imply that you didn't think it was a positive step. I don't think that. And I think it's important that you've shown how anti-democratic rhetoric exists on both sides. I was just pointing out that I don't think we're all heralding Biden as a messiah.
