There were a couple of months at the beginning of covid when it was handed over to the out of hours service, but that scheme was scrapped

How long does a covid body remain infectious for after death- or are they no longer shedding virus at that point but just ill because of the damage it did?

I can count on one hand the amount of patients we have had pass from covid in Breightmet/LL/Tong Fold. They tend to be more in hospital.

By law it doesn't need a dr to verify death, or see the body, just the cause of death.

So considering this has been the case for a good while now why should GPs be out verifying deaths when other medical practitioners who are in the community can?

A very good point but like i say, in bolton, for a bit it was given to the out of hours service

Yeah, I don't know much about it, I just thought it was odd about the verification of deaths as I mainly thought that would have been down to nurses working in the community. But I could be wrong, as I say, its not my profession.

I can’t speak highly enough of our GP and Colleagues. In the case of my wife’s Covid Pneumonia, MRI praised them and said but for their swift and decisive action we could have been dealing with something a lot worse than what we did. Doesn’t bare thinking about. We treated them at Christmas as a token of appreciation.

Remember when I had a problem down below and was desperate to see a GP - receptionist asked if I minded if it was a female as she was the only one free. Wasn’t bothered and greeted by a buxom young stunner (36dd minimum at a guess). Showed her my gooch and she gasped in shock then stick her finger up my arse. Some people would pay for that. 

I concur that in Bolton, GPS are certainly certifying death outside of a hospital setting. I am on call removing deceased from private houses and private and council run care homes for a local independent funeral home and we can’t collect without GP certification. Hospitals are different in that we collect days or even weeks after death of a patient so the hospital mortuary acts as a holding point. 
The only thing that changed was the Shipman inspired double signature (two GPS from different practices) has been reduced back down to a single GP.
