January 1, 20215 yr Due to not going out and nothing to do I've had a really sober festive season. Odd waking up today as clear as a bell. This might also be down to the fact I took two hay-fever tablets last night thinking they were my vit D tablets and was monged out after my tea!
January 1, 20215 yr If i drink today I'll end up drinking all next week and up convincing myself to do a dry February instead (and it's 3 days less) So just got to get through day/night Got the sominax on the advice of @Youri McAnespie If I'm going to spend the next week profusely sweating in bed i don't want to be awake for it

January 1, 20215 yr I've been treating floorboards for the last few days getting a hit from Polyx oil without (much) alcohol. In my mind that gives me enough credits to keep refreshing the liver into mid January

Take them in bed just before you get your head down (to sleep). Taking them should be the last thing you do before your head hits the pillow. Edit: See further advice regarding thinking given to Burndens Bogs (below). Edited January 2, 20215 yr by Youri McAnespie

I always get off to sleep easy enough, but more often than not i wake up at 4am or 5am & don’t always manage to get back to sleep - this can leave me feeling a bit flakey for the rest of the day. I don’t feel like mithering my Doctor about it though - as if they aren’t busy enough.

Since I've started district nursing it's opened my eyes to how fucking lazy some of them are. Some of them won't even come out to end of life patients who we care for. Fuckers are happy with throwing all the work at the nurses though. Can you tell they make me angry?!
January 2, 20215 yr @Burndens Bogs No, they're over the counter, shouldn't be more than £3 either. If they ask any questions don't let on they're for prolonging sleep, just say you have temporary insomnia. They're antihistamines in essence so not physically addictive. Psychologically? Hmm... They're not a magic wand either more like a leg up over the wall of sleeplessness.
January 2, 20215 yr @Burndens Bogs I'd have them and a drink on hand at your bedside and take them when you wake at sparrow fart rather than when you initially go to bed. Like I said to Zico only take them when you're ready to get your head back down. Don't take them then go for a dump or to make a brew or owt... And try not to think - especially pondering on if/when they're going to 'kick in'. They don't (kick in).

Yeah, i nearly took it an hour before but figured I'd get in bed first, then read for a bit Still, had a decent kip It's the second and third nights off the booze that are the struggle

If you'd took the Sominex an hour before the 'window' would've passed and they would have had little effect - so you did it right.

I found getting off a little trickier but once Im gone, Im gone till my alarm.
January 2, 20215 yr When I used to be caning the ale - fucking hell, sometimes I'd wake up on a bare mattress - topper and topsheet on the floor, duvet cover off, sometimes even pillowcases off. Fuck knows what was going on but sound sleeping it was not.
January 2, 20215 yr Yeh, i'll admit that (like many) i've upped the booze a bit during the lockdowns + xmas/new year, i've been through this a few times and agree that the first couple of nights off the ale aren't a problem cos you're knackered, then by the 3rd night, the night sweats start and sleep is difficult. Might have a few weeks off the ale-won't do any harm.
January 2, 20215 yr Ive been through this and it’s not pleasant at all. And it all depends how far into it you really were. I’m guessing @Youri McAnespiewas much further down the path and possibly a couple of others have been from what they’ve said on here. it’s not pretty and it’s hard. But it’s worth it. Stick in chaps.

If I've been on one my my now (thankfully) infrequent binges I won't countenance just stopping dead - I taper off or, as I term it, 'come in for a smooth landing' - it might take a week of gradual reduction - maybe about 15% less each day, it's better than doing a 'Renton' with added paranoia about dying of sommat or other...

As well as the business of actually running a practice on top of the actual medical work.

Although he does say this pandemic will change a lot for GPs, the ability to do consultations online will help with the later shifts that cater for commuters etc The admin of running a practice after all the medical side of things seems like an awful lot of work.
