Its appeasement, that's all it is, and more people will end up dying in the longer term if you essentially capitulate to agressors. These aren't peace deals in the slightest.

  • We’ve reached a point where folk are so entrenched in their support for trump that they’ll side with Putin if it means not losing face on the socials. Thats where we are now. its ok

  • That Vance is a bigger cunt than Trump

Creamed spuds.

One way to make mash...

I wonder how many of those crims sent to the front line will end up being deaded by their own?

Survive the conflict only to be executed and have their loved ones told they died gloriously in battle.

Keeps the costs down of looking after inmates.

Economic sanctions haven't had the desired impact.  Hurt the west in the pocket, but Russia battle on.

I'd imagine they are to some extent, but also recall these "experts" stating that Russia would be economically crippled enough to withdraw by May.

I don't recall anyone predicting that.

I'm an avid R4 listener. I honestly don't remember anyone making such bold claims.

I only remember folk saying sanctions would take some time to have an effect- long game scenario.

Sanctions inevitably hit both.

Russia getting much less in now though, so buying goods and arms from elsewhere becomes more difficult.

Obviously the gas situation (amongst some others) affects many others, however the rapid changes throughout Europe will mitigate the loss of Russian gas. It will just take time.

Moreover, once weaned off it, then longer term the Russian economy suffers as its market has reduced.

Arent they still getting a billion a day in, despite sanctions?

Flow been reduced dramatically in recent times through Nord Stream 1.

Hungary been getting it, but then selling it on into Europe!

probably, there will be no shortage of countries wanting to buy their oil/gas - I think Pakistan were talking about doing a deal with them last week.

The sanctions will work, but it'll take years to really start biting them, whilst people are still buying oil/gas.

Interestingly, we've got one of our suppliers over here at the minute, from mainland China, and he reckons that from the Chinese side, it very much looks like NATO is the aggressor and Russia is the good guy. He won't really talk about it much, but you can tell that he's very much "on the side" of the Russians  -  which goes to show how much people can be influenced by whatever media they have access to.

As an aside, when he travels back to China next week, he has to then stay in a Government sanctioned hotel for 2 weeks, and he'll be tested everyday for COVID. Once he leaves (provided he's clear) then he, and his family, have to stay housebound for a further week

We don't jail/murder journalists for dissent, so it's highly unlikely.

Erdogan seems to be doing a decent job in amongst all this.

Bound to have his own motives, like, but at least he's got stuff moving and is keeping some skin in the game:

Julian Assange likes this...

He’s called up 300,000 reservists, now his best soldiers are all dead or back-pedalling.

I bet these new lads are top drawer.

He’s waving his nukes around again.

Desperate.
