Dixon Jones Santos Aimson John Kid from diversity Morley Dempsey Lee Bod Charles I struggle to get Williams or Dapo in there, if we play 3 in midfield, paid money for Dempsey and Morley so assume planning to play them. Lee IMO our best player. 2 up front then new lads but seems crazy not to have Dapo in there. Know it is a squad game but seems strange to consider Dapo and MJ not in starters. Lee might miss games but this is about best 11. Centra back and left back probably weakest links now. I know would have probably been too much money for us but Jagielka would have been a perfect experienced head alongside Santos.

January 21, 20224 yr As much as these new signings give us decent depth and the option to change things I still think the best way to get our most influential players all on the pitch would be in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 however you look at it. The only change I would make is Dapo in for Baka. I’d like to see how Dapo and Charles link up. Everybody else has to earn their place. I’d possibly see Dempsey (if he comes) in for Morley to booster the experience and leadership. The attacking players; Amaechi, Dadi, Baka will be impact players from bench and possibly keep their place if they are consistent/fit enough. Thomason is the next (and more than capable stand-in) midfielder when needed. Same for Aimson who when we need more physicality is more than a good replacement at the back Sheehan and Isgrove will add quality when fit. Looking much better now
January 21, 20224 yr I agree with @meanderson93 that a 4-3-3 would probably get our best players in more easily. So, if we're talking about our Best 11 in terms of player ability then it's probably: GK: Trafford (although one game isn't much to go off) DEF: Jones, Santos, Aimson, John MID: Lee, MJ, Morley (if Demspey comes in then he's probably better than Morley) FWD: Fossey, Charles, Dapo (Can't really comment on Bodvarsson till I see him) But if we're talking about our best 'team' it's a totally different question, especially if Dempsey comes in as that really complicates what our best midfield is. Then there's a discussion to be had, if we're playing 3-5-2, does that two up front always need to be a target man, paired with a more technical player? i.e. Bakayoko and Charles/Bodvarsson and Dapo? Or could we have an effective front line with a Charles and Dapo pairing? Midfield question is really tough when it's 3-5-2 and when Dempsey is thrown into the mixture. In the 10 role, you have 3 possibilities, Lee, Dapo, Dempsey. In the central midfield there's so many different combinations. Two defensive options in Morley and MJ. Two creative options in Lee and Dempsey. A bit like the striker question, do you pair a physical player with a more technical one? Love Isgrove don't get me wrong but Fossey is an upgrade for me. His athleticism and pace are next level. His crosses always seem to go into a dangerous area and he's a more viable option for right back cover than Izzy too.

January 21, 20224 yr Author I personally think Dapo has to be in there somewhere. My point on Morley and Dempsey is we will not paying transfer fees for subs. So along with Charles will be starters. Lee and Williams are favourites with me. Add in Santos and Jones plus a keeper. You have 9. Fossey based on what we have seen plays. As does Bod based on the pursuit of him. That is 11 but only 1 centre half and no left back- think John has been poor all season. The initial point of my post that it is pretty clear whatever the final 11 you go with we are miles ahead of where we were just over 12 months ago and that is how we should judge Evatt and FV.

I like him when we are down to bare bones and it’s the way it should be an adequate replacement but we all know there is better out there. Bring in Dempsey and send George on loan

January 21, 20224 yr Just shows how strong our squad will be if we get Dempsey major improvement since the start of the season. I think IE will change the team depending on the opposition so I have no idea of our best 11 anymore which says a lot.
