Right....i can't find my original post so throwing this one out there.

I have started a 27 week plan to hopefully finish at the end of the Berlin Marathon.

Any tips for training ? currently got a PT to help build my glutes etc to prevent a further hip injury.

I’ve heard it’s a decent gym the strength factory, is that where you’re training?

That’s some effort.

there is a barrow lad doing one every day this year. Some of these folk are machines

Happy to give BIG E some tips and advice after the event. Along with LH and Ashy, I’ll be running Manchester on Sunday. It’s my first “official” marathon. Having never run more than a few miles before (a couple of half marathon 20 years ago), I got addicted during Covid and started running with a bit more intent. Finally knocking out a 50km one morning after reading Ant Middleton’s book! I’ve run 3 more road marathons (one was when a mate Marc C was doing 10 in 10 days, so I chipped in a ran one with him for support). And then I’ve ran 1 mountain marathon with 11,000 ascent. Which was more of a walk/run - took nearly 9 hours!

Last year I was banging out half marathons and up to 22 miles for fun - doing runs in the Lakes, Peaks, Snowdon, etc. I’ve suffered significant lay-offs with injuries - mainly calf and achilles. At present, I’ve major issues with my left achilles and will be going to physio in the next half hour so he can strap it up for me. Where mates have stuck to training plans and run 450 miles since 1st Jan, I’ve only managed 170. It’s been hard work - only managed 3 half marathons in that time - and nothing further. So I know that I’m going to struggle past 13 miles. And not forgetting that every stride will be painful (even after chucking paracetamol and ibuprofen down my neck pre-race). Oh, and 9 days on the piss in Barbados (did I mention I’d been) is not a recommended part of any training plan - even though I dragged myself hungover to fuck out of bed on 8 mornings for training runs.

That said, I’ve decided at the very last minute to raise some money for charity. Alzheimer’s. Looks like my mum has it. My gran had it. And so I guess its in the pipeline one day for either myself or my brother. Folk can find my link on Facebook, Insta or LinkedIn.

He was on the radio on the morning I drove over to Anglesey to run a half marathon there a few weeks back. Very, very inspirational. I ran my PB that morning (with a hangover!).

Legs are ruined today!!! Amazing event yesterday. Very inspiring. Great atmosphere. A real buzz about the city and along virtually all of the route!

Pulled in just short of £600 in sponsorship in just 48 hours. Thanks to everyone and anyone who donated or simply wished me well.

Saw Ashy at the start and Horwich at the finish. Missed L/H.

Was thinking of joining there but assumed it was mainly for weights etc..

Is there plenty of treadmills and other cardio stuff?

I have this one (don’t remember paying £50 for it though).

But don’t think you’d need one as big as this. I shove tons in this. Running trousers, coat, food, tons of water, gels, etc.

Can't be that hard right? Yesterday I cycled to the shops, ran up the stairs & had a bath. The training has begun.

Where's the other Jock @Escobarp ? Fancy a trip to Oban 😂

Looks ace that. Take it the bike bit is on MTB?
