  • Not that it matters , but I took the post as a “ gosh twenty years , seems like yesterday “ statement  rather than an “ anniversary “ thread .  Probably seems so close as the shock around it was so

It’s not that I didn’t care but Bradford, Hillsborough and 9/11 had more impact on me because they involved everyday folk Diana simply entrenched my hatred of the paparazzi/tabloids and the folk

remember being at Fulham on the first day of the season when they found the bodies

aye

1-0 up inside 5 minutes, started so well

only to then witness two of the worst debuts I can recall from Okocha and Mendy who both got hauled off at half time

I agree actually - I was just remembering his defensive capabilities (or lack of them)

Ha yes he did. It may have been the then u21 and later National manager Raymond Domenach from memory.

He had his comeuppance.

Read a book on it, absolutely horrendous.

Silly cunt referred to them in a past tense in an interview and made a bigger mistake in going back to where hed burnt the bodies. Doing that was the biggest piece of evidence as they found stuff on his shoe from the site.

It was deffo Fulham.

We were winning but lost 4-1, i sulked all night and  that news about the 2 girls was the real sickener.

On a brighter note, 47 years ago today i started at big school.

They had pissed about with the holidays that year 1975 and first day back was Aug 4th.

BOLTON star Bernard Mendy has defended his decision to join the Trotters on loan after a scathing attack by France's under-21 coach.

Raymond Domenech described Bolton as the rear end of the universe during a critical mauling of Mendy's decision to join the Wanderers from PSG.

"Bernard would have done better to stay in France with a less prestigious club," Domenech said in an interview in France. "Instead he is going to waste at a big English club." He then compared Bolton to the backside of the universe.

And Bolton Wanderers hit back at the French coach. "We believe Monsieur Domenech has never visited Bolton, so he is hardly in a position to pass comment on our wonderful town," said a spokesman for the Trotters.

Channel 5 (they love a murderer) did a great 3 or 4 part documentary on it a few months ago showing some stuff I hadn't known before its worth watching

Had to process some hand written documents done by him (is it her now?) years ago when I worked at courts to do with a different allegation against him. Felt well weird handling stuff that an infamous murderer had written and signed

What a grim anniversary to remind everyone of.

It’s taken you five hours to realise you got fashionably upset enough to post that. I posted more in a “fucking hell, doesn’t seem so long ago!”

Upset? Not at all. Just think it's an extremely grim subject to post a "20 Years Ago!" thread about.

I thought it was a bit odd.

Murder anniversary threads - could be a new thing?

It was never posted as a ghoulish murder anniversary per se but as a reminder of a point in time that I was shocked was 20 years ago.

But is it really any different than posting an anniversary of, say, the Challenger explosion or 9/11? Anniversaries of a point in our lives where most folk would recall where they were and what they were doing.

I would say so, yes. Not sure why, just feels a lot less appropriate.

160 years ago Joseph Merrick was born.

Probably seems so close as the shock around it was so much it still resonates and I was surprised it was twenty years as it didn’t seem it .

Seemed to be a spate of them at the time. Sarah Payne, Madeline McCan then Milly Dowler later on.

Sarah Payne was 2000, Milly Dowler 2003 and Madeline McCann 2007 IIRC
