I read Andy Murphy's autobiography a while back.

There's a small excerpt that i did enjoy:

"I absolutely love my fans. Even though the media like to portray me as a rather dour, lifeless personality, it's not true. Interaction with fans is part of the job but it's mainly enjoyable, I mean what's not to like about people saying they love you and wanting a picture? Hardly a difficult job.

However, there are times when I'm not in the right frame of mind. Like anyone, there are times when you just want to be left alone, or you simply don't feel too well.

One such time, I was in a hotel lift. A fat bloke got in and immediately clocked who I was. He had a strange accent, a bit australian, a bit spanish, a bit mancunian. He had union jack socks on and a Fred Perry top that was clearly 2 sizes too small. You know when you can make out the hairs around their nipples? That tight.

Anyway, he bellowed "Good morning Andy, I'm a big fan" at top note right in my face. His breath stank of trifle and cheap whisky and made me do a bit of sick in my mouth. It was rank and all I could see were his scarlet cheeks and big flabby manbusters. I was about to reply but was still choking back the vomit when the door opened and he got out of the lift, clearly muttering under his breath something about me being a miserable scottish cunt and he was glad we got smashed by Edward the First. The lift stank for the rest of my time in it.

I picked up a cheque for $2million later that day and donated some of it to a diabetes charity in honour of my lift companian."

I don’t think that’s the full picture but yes more prisons would help. Overcrowding is big around the majority of Europe at the minute, I wonder what could be causing mass overcrowding and rise in crimes?

Aren’t 70 odd % of our prison population white British?

I would say Israel indiscriminately attacking Palestine, US retreat from Afghanistan and other Western influenced Middle East problems have created loads of additional migrants. Rise in crime is multi faceted but our inability to respond is very much linked to the way the police were depleted during austerity. We have not recovered from that. Add into the mix roaming gangs of right wing rioters stoked up by Farage and others and this is where we find ourselves.

I think it’s hard to claim pressure on prison spaces is down to immigration or at least mainly down to that factor - it seems to be mainly down to an inability to build new prisons.
