Perhaps A&E would improve if we'd clapped harder.

Alternatively, get more staff and pay them properly. Just a thought.

It’ll never catch on.

Apparently we can’t afford it.

6th richest nation on earth, one in complete control of of its own destiny, borders and cash, can’t afford to pay its nurses a decent wage, which in turn would attract the extra staff we need rather than drive away the few we have left.

We - us, the UK, post Brexit Britain - can’t afford it.

Tbf, we must be due a modernising

We’ve tried the tv adverts giving details of which service you need for your ailment.

I.E. don’t go to A&E with a sore throat, go instead to a pharmacy. Don’t turn up with an ingrown toenail, go to a chiropodist.

Most of us get that but not all. Perhaps there needs to be an extra triage sift before you actually get into the A&E department where folk get turned away if they don’t actually need medical or surgical intervention.

If they blag their way in complaining of chest pains and it turns out they really have a stubbed tow, charge them for the wasted time.

Had a broken finger few years back, knew it was broken

So went to minor injuries unit as I thought a broken finger would be a minor injury

They x-rayed it and said yep its broken and so you now need to go to A&E

They booked me an appointment so that was me thinking I would be in and out in no time

All it meant was I was called through at the appointment time then to sit in another room for about four hours

All they did was put a splint on the finger then strap it up to the next one, which I would have thought the minor injury unit could have done given they knew it was broken and not a bad one

Thought the point of minor injuries units was to free up A&E so to have facilities to x-ray it and when the outcome is strap it to the next finger, why waste everyone's time going to A&E

I agree with you. Broken fingers can’t be treated with a visit to plaster theatre so I’d say minor injury would be the right level. Ribs also can’t be treated in plaster theatre but have the disadvantage of having a few major organs close by so perhaps A&E is the right place.

Daughter fell, banged her head and blacked out for a while whilst on a school PGL trip (Primary School) a few years ago.

Got the call about 8am to go a and collect her (it was the last day, they were about to set off home).

Drove across to Wrexham, they had called an ambulance when they called us. We got there about 15 minutes before the ambulance.

They took her to Wrexham General, A&E. The school party was back home, had dinner, had tea before we seen by anyone other than the receptionist. Finally a Medical person saw her at 7.30, 11 1/2 hours after the event, and within 2 minutes had discharged her.

Its not just a problem at Bolton.

After Cheltenham away when we won, I got in a bit worse for wear

Tripped over the bed, and in trying to stop me falling, broke the same finger

For some odd reason I'd kept the splint and just taped it up as there seemed little point bothering minor injuries or a trip to A&E

What amused about the ambulance strike was the comment that they'll still respond to emergencies but won't attend non emergencies.  How will we tell as that's pretty much what happens now!

My old man went full length on Market Street earlier this year. He's in his 80s, was concussed, bleeding, smashed glasses etc and got helped into one of the shops while they rang an ambulance.  4 hours later and unable to give an estimated time, the daft get got in his car and drove to A&E himself where they bollocked him 😃!   I thought that was bad until a colleagues mum collapsed at home in North Wales and couldn't be moved by family.  She waited 22 hours!

Not blaming the ambulance staff here but how's it come to this?

When I've had issues with the kids they always get seen super quick. Little one fractured her arm.falling in a playground on a Sunday afternoon, went to the local clinic, was seen, xrayed, temp plastercast on and a free Teddy bear all within an hour! Couldn't believe how quick it was. Went to the hospital the day after for a stronger cast and again done and dusted within about 40 mins.
