Recent Filums I've Watched
'Wild'. A really well made film. Reese Witherspoon is great in it. Apparently her own production company was responsible for producing it as well. There's a lot of mumbling in it though and the soundtrack sounds like it was recorded through a sock but well worth watching. Bonus points if you know where this song from the soundtrack was written: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RiUXvEtMiQ

Some of the records made in the 60's are still being played over 40 years later, so why wouldn't they be played in 100 years?

I wonder how much time we've spent in 16th place over the last season and a half. We'll have squatters rights if we're there for much longer.

Only 4 points off the bottom four. Thankfully there's a further 5 point gap to the bottom three.

Even if we'd won, we'd still be 11 points off the final play-off place. It's just not going to happen this season. Getting into the top half for the first time for the last season and a half, would be a start.

Morrissey had plenty of influences not all them musical. Oscar Wilde, Alan Bennet, 'Kitchen sink' dramas, etc. It just illustrates the futility of trying to categorize a sound.

But all music evolves from other sources. You're talking as if America was the starting point for everything. A lot of what became blues music evolved from the songs slaves brought with them when they were imported into the States from all over the world. Blues then in turn influenced bands like the Stones, mainly because blues and rock and roll were the only pop music available at the time. The Stones then exported their music back to white America who had never heard it before and that in turn influenced a whole load of new bands. Punk started in the States with bands like the New York Dolls and The Ramones, but bands like The Clash who were massive over there, were nothing like either of those bands. Their influences were much closer to home. No one country can claim the copyright to any form of popular music.

That depends on whether you think that music fits neatly into rigid categories and never evolves into anything else. The Beatles started off copying blues and rock and roll imports from the States but by the time they'd packed up, they'd revolutionized the way that music was written and recorded. Depeche Mode were massive in the States. They might have taken their early influences from 'Krautrock', but you can't really compare their later stuff to anything from that era. That's before you start talking about artists like Kate Bush or The Smiths. If they 'copied' anybody it was other UK artists.
