Ronnie first up. I think he has his work cut out today. This lad looks very confident.

The Pheonix Nights comment did get me.

Still doesn’t make up for all the snooker trolling. Reminds me of the gammons that just had to pop onto the Women’s footy thread to tell us how shite it was. If ya dinnae like it, dinnae watch it 😉

It’s bit like the coronation thread. No interest but I’ll comment. Coronation trolling😊

That would be a good point if you were forced to financially contribute to the running of Snooker tournaments and the best Snooker player was decided based on who their parents were.

I didn't watch any of the snooker to be honest, and when I did notice it on in the local club, I didn't pay attention to which particluar channel it was on. I do remember it used to always be on BBC1/BBC2 though  -  is it still on BBC1/BBC2? - if so, then we are forced, inadvertently, to contribute to the running of said game, via the TV Licence fee  😘

I'm aware snooker may no longer be on the BBC, if so, apologies

The World Championship is always on the BBC. You're not obliged to buy a TV Licence.

fair enough

Whilst it's not for me, I certainly think we should probably be doing more to promote it, as it does seem to be on a downward spiral in this country.

In China, as far as I've seen, there are shit loads of snooker halls, and they're always busy (and they always take me, thinking because I'm British, I must want to play...) yet in this country, we used to have loads of snooker halls, and now they don't seem as popular at all. There is even talk of removing the snooker table in our village club (and it's had one since it opened in 1920, it's even part of the places original constitution that it has to have one), as it's only being used a few hours a week by the same old duffers.....I expect it'll be replaced by a couple more Pool tables. Young folk just don't seem to have the a patience to play a game of snooker, and it's relatively expensive at £3.00 an hour as well I suppose.

I also ‘understand’ the game enough to know that there are very few frames which need the inclusion of snookers. In fact, the requirement for snookers is a very small part of the game.

Does it make good viewing? Not any more, in my opinion. It used to be a game played by blokes with a bit of character. These days it seems the fun side of the game has been mostly overtaken by the need-to-win game played by those raised as kids to play snooker. It’s like watching automatons!

That’s not true.

A slight difference between the two events though.

I think its a great game. Struggle to watch a full match though.

They should have less frames and a time limit.

Smaller tables, fewer balls too.

If you want snookers play billiards.

It's dull as fuck unless you are a purist.

I made it to semi final of the con club Christmas billiards tournament once despite never playing it because no other cunt could be arsed entering unless they were nearly dead.

Snookers stand for nothing In billiards. In offs, cannons and potting balls, yes. Snookers, no.

Leave it alone, it’s a great game than doesn’t need changing. For those who find snooker too difficult to play or watch the yanks have given them pool.

And if that’s still too hard go and get pissed up singing shit songs watching fat blokes throw lumps of metal on a stage.

Haha, the old running joke on here that anyone could train for a few months and be a darts/snooker player.

Well, if that's the case, pool must be a piece of piss, small table, massive pockets.

I reckon Snooker is a bit different, I've played it a few times, and it is quite tricky. You would have to, I reckon, play for at least 4 hours a week for knocking on 2 years before you could break the world top 100, you would easily have to up that to a minimum 8 hours a week to break the top 10.

Darts, absolute piece of piss, an hour a day for a year, and you're in the world top 20, easily.

Talking of niche (ist) sports. Had anyone ever entered the world of arm wrestling?

Fell in a rabbit hole of Devon Larrat and some big turkish looking dude who cant be beaten the other day.

Its fuckin massive. All their arms are 3 times bigger than the other.

This Devon dude was the don before this big fat turk bowled on the scene

Lincoln Hawk is the man, the way he beat Bill Hurley (who was world champion 5 years straight) will live long in the memory

If you changed the word ‘week’ to ‘day’ then I reckon you’d be nearer the mark.

Nope. Watched an arm wrestling video about a decade ago and one of the blokes' arms snapped. Ever since then, I can't even think about arm wrestling without feeling sick.

Some snooker player (Shaun Murphy?) was saying he'd ban snookers.  So once a frame mathematically safe, end of frame.

Would ruin the whole skill of snookers IMO. I love a frame won by getting two snookers, spirit of my dad at bar Lane and all that😀
