But imagine what this technology could do if it was applied to the Fistmaster 3000?

As a result, some of my contacts tell me that we could see a flood of low cost Chinese EVs coming into Europe - apparently China has a surplus in excess of 7KK EVs, so I suspect there will be some bargains to be had over the next few months (if you're daft enough to want an EV) As an aside, they've also just added a 50% tariff on all semiconductors, which again is going to cause massive issues, especially with regards to the EV Charger market There are already shit loads here in Europe, at what point do the Chinese start making huge losses on them? Moreover there are concerns over a lack of service facilities for them. They could have fucked up massively.

Agreed In years to come, EV's could realistically be seen as the biggest white elephant ever. The Chinese will have no problem dumping their excess in Europe, I have no doubt about that. You would think that the EU would look to impose the same sort of tariffs on China, in order to protect the European Car Manufacturers......but I've been told they won't, because the big German brands enjoy incredible , very profitable sales in China. Like Huawei though, with a Chinese EV, there will be suspicions about the inbuilt software, especially when it links with your mobile phone.....
May 16, 20242 yr Don't agree about EVs as a whole- you will know of huge improvements in battery technology- there seems to be reports of new materials and innovations on a weekly basis. Still many car manufacturers going that way too. No doubt Hydrogen will increasingly play a part, but that's further back in development, and will require a complete rethink over filling stations, and supply.
May 17, 20242 yr The Cornish are sat on some of the best deposits of lithium in the world and possibly a lot in the China clay waste pyramids. Imerys who own the pits are reticent to invest in a production scale operation as expect sodium based solutions to be the future. How far away is the question It’s madness to me to buy a EV car unless you know will get rid before the battery dies.

Buying one, especially an expensive one, I'd not be rushing into. Mrs Sweep bought a used Mini EV (8500 miles on the clock) and I've told her she'll have to keep that until it's wheels fall off or the battery dies - driving only 14 miles per day, 5 days a week, hopefully it'll last her for 10 years 😁

Savings on servicing, tax, and fuel make the purchase of a fresh battery if necessary worthwhile. Additionally, as you say new tech will see batteries capable of holding more charge and capable of being subject to many more cycles. All sorts on innovations around electrolytes, polymers and capacitors. They already have significant warranties on them, which should give some piece of mind. Just a case of when the sodium jobs (or indeed others) come to market. Fuel cost has crept up again recently too, and is expected to continue in that direction. Especially if the world does manage to clamp down on the Russian "ghost" tankers.

August 22, 20241 yr Looks like Ford are massively scaling back on EV. Apparently they've announced today they're pulling out of ongoing development and basically writing off around $2B of investment they've put into new models. For what it's worth, and I've mentioned it before, the EV Charger companies I deal with have both told us, in the last few weeks, the ban on Ice sales will be pushed back further still, from 2035 to 2050, they expect this to be announced Q1/Q2 next year.

Which is contrary to the expected change back to the initial 2030 date, by the new government! I saw thar about Ford, other companies are pushing ahead with their's though.

The UK Government will, in my opinion, do absolutely nothing unless the EU do so first (in the same way we followed them on pushing it back) - no way, on something that "big" will we lead the way

I don't think it was in the King's speech, but it is something they said they would do. Chuck in the wind farm/crown estate partnership and the new energy company, and it does seem that they intend to go that way. That said, there are plenty of things they have done or aren't doing that seem to be at odds with previous statements.
August 22, 20241 yr Although not the article I read, this is another, quoting the DoT. https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/dft-confirms-ban-on-sale-of-new-fossil-fuel-cars-from-2030 Only on cars though, which may be a bit of a compromise.

Purely posting details from government, yet it's judged like a cock-waving contest. Are you saying Starmer is a liar, and isn't going to do what he said? Are the DoT bullshitting? Fwiw, I'm perfectly aware of the dissatisfaction within the industry- sweep has mentioned this regularly, but there are also different approaches and attitudes within it. VW very different to Ford for example. These concerns are the very reason why Sunak put the ban back 5 years, so that infrastructure could be put in place first. He was pilloried by the opposition for it- surely they wouldn't keep it the same now in government! It is a subject I read about regularly, together with research and development of new battery technology. I may look to make an investment in certain materials based on projected price rises as a result of new products. Feel free to do the same, it's quite fascinating. Or pipe down.

I've watched this from afar for quite a long time now. Sweep, as you know, actually works in this industry and has done for quite a while. Quite why you feel the need to challenge his every post based on what you've read from a few articles both baffles and amused me a little bit. He's big enough and ugly enough ( and he's really fucking ugly) to fight his own battles... but I look forward to him telling you how to cut grass based on what he's read in Gardeners Weekly.
December 9, 2025Dec 9 And what a shock, the EU are just about to announce that the ban on new petrol and diesel cars is going to be shoved back another 5 years, until 2040 The industry have been aware of this for a while, but it looks like, from what I hear, it'll be announced in the next few weeks. By the way, it'll eventually be pushed all the way back to 2050 is the industry expectation, that's if it's not just scrapped altogether.
