Should have started a thread earlier- if anyone’s interested!

Absolutely phenomenal 👏👏

  • I've NEVER seen that photo before! It is clearly an Oxford inter-College (Cuppers) match and I think it must be 1969, so it's on the track at Iffley Road where Bannister first ran a sub-4 minute

Fantastic to be able to run 1:54 for 800m Malc. Hope you don't mind, know your surname from The Knowledge contributions. An internet doff of the cap.

  • 400/800 doubles used to regular options.  In the 1948 London Olympics Arthur Wint (Jam/RAF) won the 400 and was second in the 800 to Mal Whitfield (USA), the latter having been third in the 400.

No it’s 7.45, you were probably looking at European timing/scheduling.

Chance of 3 medals tonight, 800m and 2 relays. Lake at high jump would be an outsider.

Bugger. Perhaps left a bit too big a gap.

Silver not too bad though.

She lost to the best athlete tonight....

She does need to get a Gold...

That's the reality of races at these distances - half a second doesn't sound much but it really is

But it's good to see Leigh Harriers' name on the telly

I ran for Leigh from 1974 - 1991

Superb effort by the 400m relay team.

Anchor bloke ran away from the world champion to secure a bronze.

Brilliant effort.

Yeah, really impressive

I think they changed from their usual order as well

Matched by the ladies.

A couple of our team do incredibly well considering they have sizeable attributes.

Cracking advert for sports bras.

European, not Worlds...

She is a great athlete, hope she gets Gold in Paris....

Sorry my mistake, you are right, she deserves it

I think she said she ran her lifetime best?

She controlled the race well but missed the opportunity to send a message to her Olympic rivals, but was slower than in her semi-final.

And the runner-up came from fourth to second in the last 100, halving the lead. Next time she will try to be closer when the action really starts.

She ran her lifetime best in Eugene, Oregon, last September (1:55.19). She also ran 1:55.78 there last month in her only 800 this season before the European.

This year is her best opportunity to win in the Olympics because Phoebe Gill is a sensational runner. She was about the same level as KH at ages 12 and 13 but by 15 she was matching KH's times at 17. At 16 Gill was matching KH at 18. Keely's breakthrough came at 19. Gill's 17th birthday was in late April and she has run 1:57.86 in Belfast and 1:58.08 in Manchester holding on to win on each occasion after sensationally fast opening laps.
