Athletics World Champs

Should have started a thread earlier- if anyone’s interested!

But couldn’t resist after that run from Josh Kerr.

Absolutely phenomenal 👏👏

  • I've NEVER seen that photo before! It is clearly an Oxford inter-College (Cuppers) match and I think it must be 1969, so it's on the track at Iffley Road where Bannister first ran a sub-4 minute

Fantastic to be able to run 1:54 for 800m Malc. Hope you don't mind, know your surname from The Knowledge contributions. An internet doff of the cap.

  • 400/800 doubles used to regular options.  In the 1948 London Olympics Arthur Wint (Jam/RAF) won the 400 and was second in the 800 to Mal Whitfield (USA), the latter having been third in the 400.

Yeh crazy conditions earlier on.

Love seeing Brits winning gold, especially when they are against the odds like KJT’s and Kerr’s have been

Loved it that he smashed the arrogant Norwegian 💪

Been watching, great run by Kerr.

I enjoyed seeing the American woman and the Australian (Moon and Kennedy) agreeing to share the Gold in the pole vault. Right decision made by both, despite Michael Jordan's comments. He's a good pundit generally and all time legend, but he gets it wrong now and then.

Yeh I agree on both points.

He’s an ultimate winner.

But sometimes sport needs two winners and that was one of those moments. 👏

It happened at the Olympics too. High jump with 2 golds.

They should have to settler for silvers with no gold awarded.

I have to admit, I'm not keen on two gold medals being awarded

Some cracking arse and legs on show last night

Hoping Keely Hodgkinson can bring the gold home

There were, some of the women were pretty decent as well

Absolutely: are female athletes a bit more feminine on the whole now? :)

As for the two golds- I'm not sure what the rules are exactly, but if both athletes fail at the same height, and both have the same performance on countback, what can they do?

Part of me feels that there should be one winner, but if the comoetition rules allow for two, then to suddenly chuck one in would seem unfair.

Did you not see the women hammer throwers?

The rule require a jump-off. One additional attempt at the final height. If still tied then height changed by the current incremental change (5cm in this case) - both fail, then lower by 5cm, both succeed increase by 5cm until tie is resolved. That could take a while, especially in PV.

If both agree not to jump off then it is a tie.

The jump-off rule only applies in HJ and PV and only to first place. A tie for third would always give 2 bronzes.

All relative Malc. Wouldn't expect the throwers to be like a runner etc.

As for the jumpers- quite glad in a way that it doesn't go on like an incessant penalty shoot out.

Femka Bol is a talent.

There also seems to be a few with an ample bosom, unlike the standard ironing board.

Well in, Ben Pattison
