Athletics has World Champs every 2 years, European Champs every 2 years, loads of Diamond League meetings.....

Shall we kick Athletics out too?...

I think you're missing my point a tad, athletics, diving, swimming, cycling etc, the pinnacle of those sports are the olympics

footballers, don't grow up wanting to win gold medals, same with rugby, golfers and soon to be cricketers

He knows me better than that, I hope with the 'old boy's name' comment he meant Joe Galvin, a great bloke who I ran with in the 70's and 80's, Keeley will never forget him, nobody who ever ran for Lei

  • Anyone feeling slightly emotionally unstable today probably should leave this till later, amazing stuff.

  • Perhaps mentioned, but there's a Cameroonian boxer (Cindy Ngamba) playing for the Refugee Olympic Team who resides in Bolton

I didn't miss your point. I just don't agree with it...

Things change in the Olympics all the time. New sports are added, some are removed, some return.

Get used to it...

It's been good watching sports that I don't usually follow....

Hmm, maybe that's looking at it from a British perspective, where we effectively can't have a team.

Those Spaniards, French, Argies etc will have been well up for it.

Just like the tennis superstars were too.

If you're coming at it from a money point of view, then there is plenty of it around in athletics, etc.

Just remember, the pinnacle for a road cyclist is the olympics

Though i think the point about it being the one to win isnt a bad cut off

And at that point, tennis golf football are definitely out

On the plus side, at least they're now getting rid of boxing in the Olympics. I quite like boxing, usually, but in the Olympics it's absolutely awful. Far too slow, and all about trying to get "points" rather than knocking the opposition out.

Skateboarding, BMX and Surfing I find a bit odd to be in the Olympics, and the introduction of "E-sports" really is weird to me

Those bmx and skateboarding folk are bonkers- dedicated, athletic, and plenty of risk. Bit like snowboarding in the winter job, but when do they first decide to chuck themselves upside down from a jump whilst spinning their bike about?

Of course 👍

What about Snooker and Darts :)

No it isn't. For a ROAD cyclist it's the Tour de France, the Giro d'Itlaia, the World Championship road race & the Vuelta a Espana.... Plus the 5 monuments.....

For a TRACK  cyclists the Olympics is the pinnacle. GB throw all their efforts into the Olympic cycle, so to speak....

I thought of @Sweepon the way home

Yougov survey has 26% of folk thinking they could make the next olympics with 4 years solid training

Short range golf and javelin. Why not.

I'd say that's doable.

4 years of weight training you'd be able to compete in the weightlifting surely.

I reckon equestrian must be the easiest to do in 4 years

Crazy golf, ten pin bowling and dominoes should be in.

bowling was on the shortlist to be included in 2020 but never made it, along with squash

squash in for 2028 I think

That would open the door for snooker and darts, which really would be scrapping the barrel. Although @Sweep could do a couple of weeks’ practice and would be a shoe-in for a medal.

Darts is a target sport, as is shooting/archery.

Get it in.

imagine a load of fat slobs like me pissed up chanting boring boring tables dressed as a traffic cone? :D

not to mention the players being pissed

not sure it fits in the olympics tbh ha

They could bring back pankration

Apparently it makes MMA look like Saturday afternoon wrestling

Given the ladies on the sand being dressed in not a lot, the fat lads will have a cracking time.

Your undies on the outside won't be out of place- most athletes seem to wear little else!

Was in the original Olympics

But the Ancient Greeks ditched it as it was too violent

Which coming from them is some achievement
