Since F1 has left terrestrial telly I've no idea who is who and the coverage of a Brit leading the standings has been lacking IMO

Damon Hill proved that when he went from world champion to way down the pecking order every race when he left Williams 

McIlroy was a rare achievement so for me he should win 

Littler is impressive for his age but I find darts fans weird

I don't care much for any of the sports on the shortlist, or darts, so not appreciating the subjective nature of it all though the golf was exciting when I watched the last couple of holes as a mate had big money on it

He's from Northern Ireland but chose to represent the Republic at the Olympics as he'd previously represented Ireland as an amateur. Golf there is like rugby, administrated to cover both the Republic and NI.

Listen to him, his accent (while not full on John Cole) is Northern Irish. 

Shay Given, to me anyway, has a NI accent. He's Irish but seem to remember he's from a town close to the border. 

The team of the year should be interesting. 

Why waste any time pondering it? We all know it will be decided on political considerations and not the best sportsperson.
