Then in E/T there was a Kane header, Rogers shot and the goal all within 30 seconds of each other, then there were 2 shots from Saka and 1 from Spence in the 2nd half of E/T, again within 30 seconds of each other - exciting but not reflecting the flow of the match. In the 2nd half, I can only recall the Saka cross when he beat the full back? (not counted in the shots stats anyway). Norway had 2 Haaland headers saved, the 2 on 1 break when Haaland was begging to be put through, Sorloth volley just over, Odegaard shot saved, the cross Pickford tipped over, the disallowed goal, hit the bar from the corner.

I don't care, we are through and that's all that counts, and Bellingham is an absolute superstar.

But for me another example of the stats meaning very little, we all watched the game and know how it went.

You’ve called the game fairly and accurately there.

I can’t disagree with the point you make about the balance of play.

But I suspect it’s a rarity that the XG, shots on target, total shots, possession and big chances all go to the team that were under the pump for bigger spells.

But while I think there’s merit in both yours and Tuchel’s appraisal, I’m sticking to my POV that we handled those periods of pressure really well, and to me, as the stats suggest, still looked dangerous, at times, when in possession.

Any slight issues will be worked out between the squad.

I think that initial interview was slightly misinterpreted by TT, hence my reference to the English language.

I don't think the interviewer was actually saying the mentality was a problem, but just listing reasons why TT might have been unhappy.

Nevertheless, the interviewer didn't need to list things in that way. He should have simply left the open question of "what we you unhappy about" and let TT formulate his answer in his own way, in his own time.

Instead TT, understandably, was irked by the comment, and stuff blew out of proportion.

I was pleased with the guys in the studio and there response.

They didn't muck rake, and actually said a bit of tension, and not letting players start believing the hype etc, was good.

It's tbe press afterwards that should look at themselves.

It has also been refreshing to hear from the assistant at half time, as he's been more open, and Frank in his comments.

Suggests a set up that wants to win, is happy to be pushed and has a togetherness.

Like TT, I was somewhat frustrated, as I think we are better than we showed at times, but I also accept that the heat and humidity is terrible to deal with.

Yes, I don't think we played much fluent football against Mexico, and after going down to 10 men it was always going to be a backs to the wall job.

Similarly at times last night, Norway put us under pressure and had a fair bit of the game.

Did we ride our luck ? Yeah, a bit at times.

Norway are a good team, no surprise they ran us close.

Think we have to take into account the Mexico effort when criticising last night.

Players ran their blood to water to get a result, it was bound to have some affect.

Just keep finding ways to win will do.

Hopefully the squad can rest up, get a few players back fit and well ready for the semi.

I think Germany's 2002 route takes some beating: a group with Ireland, Cameroon and Saudi Arabia, followed by Paraguay, USA and South Korea to make the final.

Highest ranked team was Paraguay at 14 in the world.

You can only play the teams that have earned the right to play you.

The likes of South Korea may not have been favourites to get their, but they earned it.

On paper, I don't think England's route has been that difficult. Paper would suggest we should beat those teams.

We all know it's not quite so easy.

As Egypt showed against the Argies.

it's all cudda wudda shudda, but croatia, mexico and norway would have beaten every team the argies have played so far IMO

Also worth pointing out the amount of travelling we've done throughout the tournament, and adding the 30 odd degree temps before humidity in Miami on Saturday. It's been some effort by the squad.

The talk of who teams have beaten got me checking who we've beaten in recent WCs.

We've won nearly as many games in the last month (5) as we have in the preceding 16 years 😄

Previous 4 WCs, won 7 in total plus 1 on pens:

2010: Slovenia, 2014 none; 2018: Tunisia, Panama, Sweden; 2022: Iran, Wales, Senegal.

5 draws in those WCs: Algeria, USA, Costa Rica, Colombia, USA again (the 12 games we didn't lose not exactly v footballing giants).

Played 19 games in 4 WCs and failed to win 63% of them, compared to 17% this year so far.

Losses since 2010 (in order): v Germany, Italy, Uruguay, Belgium, Croatia, Belgium and France.
