Ann Widdecombe

Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere, RIP Ms Widdecombe, a character of politics, no 78 year old woman deserves to suffer the horrendous death she apparently suffered, I met her when she was prison minister and she was very staff orientated but also campaigned for prisoners to be treated fairly

Aye, there is a time and a place..

Factually, he's right- the level of abuse and threats to all politicians, irrespective of party, is off the scale.

That said, until the full facts are known, keep quiet.

Three separate protests across Glasgow this week. Vigilante mobs whipped up into a frenzy by online bullshit. One innocent local had his home attacked after false info.

It’s a grim state of affairs . People can no longer wait for the police to do their job.

Farage part of the problem. What a tit he’s made of himself on this one.

Though I do sympathise with him & all other politicians who get so much abuse & have to step up security. You see it now with Burnham with muppets calling him a traitor & calling for civil war. Simply because they disagree with his politics.

I've no doubt it will get worse sadly. This country is on a very dangerous, and not very pleasant trajectory at the moment

You think it's just the UK?

Aye

If only we didn’t have immigration

All these brainwashed racist pricks wouldn’t exist 🙄

They never did before did they ?

Just listened to the latest statements from the Devon Police and the South Yorkshire constabulary with 'no terrorism or political motive' content.

Political interference along the lines of Southport's "Welsh white Christian" deception?

Maybe I need to turn my BS sensor down. There was a time when you would never doubt statements by the Police. Those times are long gone.

No - but I think we're in a particularly difficult position here.

Post colonial, post Brexit, lack of a clear vision about what type of country we want to be, disfunctional political class, divided populations, hugely diminished armed forces, begining to see the first tangible effects of global warming etc and so on and so forth.

Maybe it's the same everywhere - but I just notice it more here because this is where I live.

Former colonialism and Brexit have had no effect on the tumbling towards mass civil unrest.

The former was many years ago, and we haven't been in this situation previously, the latter, certainly in large part, was a reflection of the situation of the nation.

Armed forces situation was caused by the benefits if the end of the cold War, but went on too long, as the money went elsewhere.

Climate change etc may be having a compounding effect, but we all know why we are in the situation we are in.

There are clips (and full video) of a group of experts in the EU discussing the potential for civil war.

Eoin Linehan, David Betz, and another chap o don't know the name of, explaining how we got here, and the likelihood.

Extremely stark, with the experts saying the UK, Ireland and Sweden are the most likely to go first, and that would trigger other nations to follow.

I would imagine France wouldn't be too far behind.

I'm not sure I agree. I'm not sure the UK really knows what it's place in the world is anymore.

I think colonialism is still a major factor in the way the country sees itself and it's responsibilities. Not necessarily that we want a return to it.

Brexit I'd argue has more of an immediate impact. Both in terms of the jump in numbers of immigrants and asylum speakers since we pulled out - but more in that where we acted as the arbiter between the states and the EU, we're now having to 'pick sides' and we're not clear on which way to go now those relationships are more polarised.

We need some sort of New Deal type of leader. Who is going to articulate the next 50 years and get some broad agreement (if not total agreement) from the racist thickos and the bean munching lefties. Otherwise we really do have two camps and there is an increasing danger of civil unrest.

I don't believe this for one minute, are we meant to believe a bloke drives 267 miles to kill a random old woman for no apparent reason?

It'll have to happen in the summer on a hot day after an afternoon in the pub as it won't be happening on a Tuesday night in December
