Now that the FA Cup appears to stirred up a few people, how about naming your best moments.

 

The 3 games versus Newcastle United have to be my most memorable FA Cup games (run).

 

First game at Burnden, a goal crazy 3-3 draw in which Malcolm MacDonald stole the show with a good run and round the keeper. Then his first time effort from a throw that he hooked in on the turn.

 

The game at St. James' was on the TV late on and ended up 0-0 with Johny Byrom hitting the cross bar in what would have been a fantastic goal to win the tie.

 

The off to the neutral ground, Elland Road. Thousands crammed into the ground and many, including myself missed the kick-off due to the traffic. We lost 2-1 and was disappointed, but Newcastle where better than us that night. I can still see Alan Gowling heading the ball home right in front of the travelling Bolton fans.

we held on to win

Never forget 10,000 of us singing the Munich songs at Old Trafford in 1991. And winning at Anfield, Goodison and Highbury.

But the greatest moment had to be when George Oghani scored a last minute equaliser at Halifax. Mayhem on the pitch. Tannoy asked the HOME FANS to stay behind at the end!

Back to ours for a replay. Extra time - a pitch that was absolutely fecked. And another draw.

Back to the Shay for a 2nd replay - which we won comfortably.

1974 home to Stoke City was a cracker, the first sunday game to be played at B/park, over 40000 on, Mr Byrom scored a hat trick to win the game 3-2. plus loads of platform sole shoe dancing on the Lever.

Andy Walker scoring in front of the Kop and then running to the corner flag to celebrate in front of the crying, bin-dipping, shell-suited, car-robbing, thieving-chav Scouse bastards.

Try and get hold of a copy of the roadrunner tape from the Liverpool match... Ding dong has just returned to commentry from having a stroke/heart attack or something and the doctors have told him not to get excited!!! At one point he gets that excited that he pulls the plug on his mike so you are left without commentry or noise for about 5 minutes

I'd JUST got in the ground and we were walking along some seats - actually walking on the seats - and McGinlay (He got the first yeah?) bagged right in front of us.

 

Ending up yards away from where you began was par for the course after a goal on the terrace, but first and last time it happened to me in seats. Madness.

 

Everton away year after beat it for me tho, singing Owen Coyle's name as we left, best feeling I've ever had at a game. Can't explain why really...maybe cos it looked like Cottee and Stuart Barlow were gonna totally shred us early on.

Remember the Rangers, Celtic chant coming from our more boisterous contingent in the seats. I think a load had already been sent home before the game started.

 

Remember the goal and also remember the lad who got hurt when the fence got knocked down, got to take penalties at half time in one of the next games at Burnden (still see him now & again ). The penalties were part of the scheme MG mentioned a few weeks ago. The club looking to build bridges with the fans etc.

 

Everton at Goodison is my all time favourite.

Southampton...right up the point where Barry Horne took pot luck.

Oh and an honourable mention for one that often gets ignored - the Spurs 6-1 which was actually 7-1.

Went on a Travel club coach to the Everton match we were all singing the other version of the Coyle song before the match but oh how that changed on the way home - I think that match changed the fans views on Coyle as they were indifferent up to then - the fine line of success!!

He's still scoring goals for fun in Scotland as well (for Aidrie I think) - not bad considering he's 63 now

Twas a League Cup tie that one.

But enjoyable all the same.

Aye Everton for me, got lost looking for the car after the game and ended up near some reet dodgy flats, back on East Lancs asking for lifts home, ended up finding our vehicle after 45 mins.

 

Missed Liverpool due to being in South Africaand Arsenal cos I was working.

 

Remeber Halifax very well.

Yes it was but me and the lad I worked with who came from Astley decided that we would go and watch Chorley rather than go to Halifax. We went to the other two cup games against Halifax.

 

I think we saw a better game.

Where were you two in 63/64 when we were shit and got relegated from the first division. That season I was at the away games at Fulham, Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea and Tottenham. I was also at the Preston West Ham cup final and saw Doug Holden score for Preston and Howard Kendall becoming at that time the youngest player to play in a cup final.
