Beer at Plovdiv, Besiktas and Guimaraes has been very reasonably priced, some would argue too reasonably priced.

Portugal was OK, but Istanbul was "real", for want of a better word.

Istanbul was....well, it was Istanbul! As an experience it was more intense, for fairly obvious reasons! But I go back to the point I made in another post - we've been lucky to have 3 quite different trips. Their totality is greater than the sum of their individual parts as t'were. But of the ones so far - and indeed of the ones we'll maybe ever do - Istanbul takes the barm cake.

nah - Portugal was good, very good in fact. It's just that Bulgaria was quite a bit better and Istanbul vastly so.

jay, jay,jay, youve obviously got bored of the whole thing, or have been to so many England and Bolton UEFA that you cant appreciate that some people will only ever make it to one or two- and it is therefore an experience of a lifetime.

So shut up, stay at home for days with the kids and do housework while i get ferkin wrecked, watch my team, travel abroad and ring you just to rub it in what a good time im having.

Having spent my life watching the whites in every division of the football/premier league for the last 30 odd years, the current European experience is not something to be taken for granted. Enjoy every moment, every glass of beer, every new European club, every German bomber song and remember, if results go against us, we may never do it again!

I may sound like a pessimist but I was the one who started a European Football Savings Club at the TSB in 1978 when we got promoted to the old 1st division and it took 27 years to materialise!

Yep, put me down for a Istanbul was better tick as well. Portugal was good but Istanbul had the magic of a real away trip where as in Portugal it was like being in Bolton town centre there were that many of us.....even had their own town hall....no lions though....cheap skates.....

Jay not every one has been as fortunate as yourself over the years, so may not have had the opportunities you have had. Yes people are going over the top, but try to remember your first away trip on foreign soil. I know I went over the top after watching England abroad for the first time, to a point where I was thinking about giving up watching Bolton and start travelling around with England.

 

Let them have there moment, as I did after England and you probably did after your first trip abroad and not piss on their bomfires!

I disagree with a few. Having been to all 3 away games - the day itself in Guimaraes was excellent - but Wed night and Thur night were a bit "after the lord mayors show".

Wed night in Bulgaria was a cracker and the best of the 3 trips.

Day of game was okay - weather was good, nice to kick a bit of sand about. Thursday night was okay.

Wed night in Istanbul was alright. Day of game was a cracker (what I remember), but I missed Thursday night (in bed ill).

 

I think they've all been great trips in their own differing ways - and all have had shite moments too.

 

And for the record - I prefer Efes to Superbock. Cannot remember what we were drinking in Bulgaria.

 

England away games do not interest me. Full of knobheads trying to out do each other.... who's the hardest. who's the best dressed. who's got the most boys. who can drink 40 gallons of beer and still be standing the day after....... YAWN!

I'm also fortunate enough to have been watching england all over the place and travelled all over with both my family and job.

 

To a lot of people who have never travelled out of bolton though it was a big thing and after all it was a geat few days.

hmmmm.

 

 

only been to bulgaria myself, but had a good time.

 

not sure why people should not talk about bolton taking 4000 to an a game in europe and re live the experience.

 

not everyone has (or would want to) gone round europe watching england so this is the first time for a few.
