Mine must have been watching the Whites play Newcastle in the epic games in the 70's.

I remember Malcolm MacDonald was brilliant at Burnden, Johnny Byrom had a good game at St. James' and eventually we got beat with former Wanderer Alan Gowling scoring a goal in the 1-2 defeat at Elland Road.

 

Can't say I've seen may FA Cup games like them since.

i went to the elland road game with my owd man ....terrible traffic on the way ,and missed the first 20 mins or so.

 

 

been to a good few cup ties ..anfield was class , everton 2-0 down and come back and win 3-2 brilliant .

 

but for me winning 3-1 at arsenal , should have been 4 as we all know .

 

not many teams went to highbury and came away with a result like that .

Best moment - Out on the piss from 11am in Liverpool,then watching us come from 2 -0 down to beat Everton.

 

Worst moment - losing to Darren Beckfords goal against Oldham after Mark Patterson fcuked up, i don't think Patterson was ever forgiven.

The 3 newcastle games in the 70s were brilliant, it brought thousands of bolton fans out of the woodwork and felt like a throwback to the 50s, 40 odd thousand on burnden 50 odd thousand on at st james and a full

house at elland road never forget the sight of hundreds of bolton coaches stuck in traffic trying to get to elland road , only draw back was we lost the 2nd replay and i got locked out.

Liverpool away. I was gutted after Liverpool came back from 2 behind at Burnden. I thought that was it. Beating Liverpool at Anfield was brilliant.

Number 1 memory for me as well. I always raise a smile when I think about 10,000 Wanderers fans all singing "Ooh Aah Brannigan" for about 5 minutes

Southampton at Burnden, 2-2 draw (I think) before we lost the replay to Barry Horne's wonder-flukes.

 

Terrace were RAMMED that day, biggest crowd I'd ever seen at Burnden, and it took me twenty minutes to get up to my usual spot. By the time I got there I was desperate for a piss, I was only young then but I'd had a good few pints in the King Bill before the game.

 

It took until half time to get to the bogs, no way I was fighting my way back into the middle of the terrace after that so I watched from nearer the Lever.

 

Someone came on and inspired a fightback, we'd been chanting his name for ages, I think it was Tony Kelly but something tells me Kelly set the goals up with some sublime passes but the sub was actually Scott Green...or was it Reeves?

I would pick that Halifax game as my highlight. The season was going nowhere quick and we were going out of the FA Cup to bleedin' Halfax Town. Oghani last minute equaliser right in front of us lot PITCH INVASION

Went to all the away games mentioned. Running down motorway to get to Elland Road. Told my old fella I'd see him in ground!

Southampton on train. Enough beer to sink a battleship, I made a tidy little profit that night! Escort to ground and every man for himself back to station. :D/

Both Liverpool and Everton were all dayers in pubs in and around the docks.

Arsenal. . .told you before about the shop lifting spree by my fellow mini-bus occupants.

One of my best matches was the home FA Cup tie replay at Burnden versus Spurs in the late 70's!

 

We drew 1-1 at theirs!

All the big games from the 90`s stand out some great memories, especially Arsenal away (Nowt up with Kellys goal IMO) but the one that always makes me laugh was away at Whitton Albion.

 

Stood next to a bloke I`d never seen before in my life and he turned around to me, looked me in the eye and said

 

"Mind my spot im going to the toilet"

 

WTF...knob head...

 

Would you say that to a complete stranger.

 

 

Then when he eventually returned, a Bolton player made a mistake and he shouted out "You silly sausage"

 

Those two things stick in my mind.
