But aint that really the crux of the problem? the expectation and anticipation of visits of Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal etc which wets the appetite needs somehow to be there for the rest of the games to entice people out. How do you do that? I sure dont have the answer.

 

I'm afraid relying on blind loyality, premier league status, duty etc as if it were some sort of precious private club that gave out badges aint gonna do it no matter how much it pisses you off.

 

 

i think the answer to the problem is a change of playing style, we have relied heavily on long ball, fans went along with that when we were struggling, but now fans want more entertainment, hopefully the first step will be the signing of anelka, and a more passing game can be mixed into our style ofm play.

Given that our last five home league attendances agaisnt Watford have been (in chronological order, oldest first): 7066, 10150, 10483, 15921, 13904.....I'd say 21k was pretty good and definitely a step in the right direction!

21.000 is a good crowd considering the ball never touched the floor :p

The crowd wasn't much different to the one we had for the first game against Spurs it's just the away support was bigger. We give the away fans what 3,500 - 4,000? So on average we get 19,000 - 21,000 Bolton fans in and for the bigger games Man U , Chelsea etc we get 23,000 - 24,000 Bolton fans in and the away end sold out which i think is about right

For the first time in a long number of years i too did not renew my S/T this year and when Sky published their fixture list i was delighted that i had made the correct choice. 4 games before Xmas at home, 3 at terrible kick off times.

 

I must admit that the decision was difficult as i was in North Upper (Family) and realised that i would not get my seats back. I consulted my young son who said that as long as we go away from home then he is not bothered! I worried about missing out on smaller allocation away tickets and Cup ties. In the end though i thought make the break and take the risk.

 

When you have a S/T you are obliged to go. You feel trapped. I now have a choice in how I CHOOSE to spend MY MONEY. I am not and never have been one of these people who believe they are contributing towards the club and honestly don't give a toss about whether people think i am loyal. I am loyal now to myself. For years i have given all to BWFC. Now its my time. I was there in the dark days and honestly hope they never return.

 

I will always love BWFC, even now when i am not there i am glued to Sky Sports etc. I will of course still attend a number of 3pm saturday home games, similarly away games but i am no longer in the hands of Sky TV. If they get involved then i simply dont go because i have created a choice for myself.

 

I like others miss the comradery of burnden but football has changed and it will never return. We must look forwards and not back and there is no point moaning if you are paying extortionate amounts of cash week after week.

Like Carlos said, spot on post. I renewed this year just like I have for the other 18 years but I think once I have kids (soon I'm told ) then I will also be taking your attitude. Right now I feel guilty if I don't attend because I have bought that days ticket already. But when I have to be less selfish I too will be picking and choosing rather than buying every game up front, even if it means losing my seat which is a cracker.

Many times I have said right thats it I am not going to the next away match and I even book work on, but in the morning of the match I always wake up early and the nearer it comes to kick off time I start shaking and I end up going on the last minute. I know that I can kick the habit and I'm sure I will. I have seen Bolton matches on more than 100 different grounds but I don't remember most of them. I miss Dave Higson very much because I saw him nearly every week and he talked for hours, and in all the time I knew him there was only ever one subject. There is more to life than Bolton Wanderers I used to think when I had listened to him.

Most nights the last thing I do before I go to bed is put the computer on and read the views on a messageboard by fans of Bolton Wanderers. What a sad b??stard I am.

at the end of the day clubs receive vast amounts of money from sky, so they cant really complain about punters watching the games on sky.

 

i suppose its actually up to the club to promote themselves and entice customers back.

 

basic business practice of you ask me, we are the customers and will always take the best option available in our opinion.

 

if they put as much time and money into enticing fans through the gates as they do promoting elton john, lou lou and coldplay they'd be onto a winner...

We are what we are and have always been - a club with a limited fan base.

 

 

Correct and people who want to argue otherwise are talking through thier arse. We are a big town but a small club.

 

Gone are the days we used to take 50% of our home crowd to away ways - great days those.

 

On another note watched Spurs tonight in Prague - brought back memories of our first game last year & the session in Sunny Beach - lucky bastards getting Prague - I NEED EUROPEAN FOOTBALL.

last time I chatted to Dave was at the Yeovil game - some boozer away from the ground and then out of the blue Dave turns up and all is well with the world. A bit later Biffo turned up after being turfed out of the Yeovil beer tent, but thats another story.

Next time I saw Zozzy was in Istanbul....Yeovil to Besiktas - almost a complete alphabet, but then that's Bolton for you.

The first time that I met and spoke to SatanGreavsie and biff was at half time at Yeovil. As you say Ding Dong Dave was on the ground as well, who is no longer with us. I was stood on the terrace, and indeed travelled to the match with Ferny that day who also has sadly passed away.

I believe the next time that I saw SG and biff was at Besiktas. All in all it is a bizzare set of circumstances in the lives of Bolton Wanderers fans considering the contrast in the opposition and enormity of the games.
