Total madness, doesnt seem like 5 years ago does it??!! I was sat on a lawnmower mowing a lovely area in kearsley called mossfield rd listening to my radio when i heard it on tower.....gave me goosebumps on the spot!!!

was at college, and people were talking about 'world war three' has started, and said planes had crashed in Britain too. (thats chinese whispers/hysteria and teenagers does for you).

when i saw it on tv for the first time i thought it was a film it was just so unreal

When the BBC news fella came on in his black suit there was a cry from the front room of

'Eh up Queen Mums dead!!'

 

just sat watching it in sheer disbelief!!

In Albufeira,Portugal on the piss with the lads at the time, just happened to pop into a bar on fishermans beach and watched the thing unfold on telly. I can't look at a plane in the sky now, without visualising it crashing into a building.

i was working in a travel agent at the time! (no im not a poof) justt got bombarded with phone calls

then had to go to Dixons in town to see what everyone was on about. It was like watching a movie, bad times for travel that and it has never reallly recovered

they cut neighbours half way thru the show so it must have been bad other wise i would have been extremly annoyed

Was in Holborn, London.

 

Saw it on the TV screen in a shop window, thought Canary Wharf was on fire at first.

 

Shit it going home that night, I knew little about Al Qaeda really but everyone knew Britain would be on the list too, eventually.

 

Couple of nights later Angel tube got evacuated, never found out why. I was on the platform and it is one deep fucker, 2 sets of escalators. I REALLY shit it that night.

I was walking across the town hall square when i saw a large crowd watching the teles in one of the shops on Newport St.

 

I'd heard the news about half an hour before that a plane had crashed into one of the towers but assumed it must have been due to bad weather.

I was on a flight to Miami on 11th Sept 2001 on my way to see my siter when the plane landed at Atlanta. We were told nothing until we got off the jet and saw chaos and people crying in the terminal. Watched it all unfold surrounded by (justifiably) hysterical Americans.

 

Ended up hiring a car and driving to Florida.

 

Wierdest holiday ever. And a frankly terrifying flight home. You think its bad seeing asians on planes now, you should have seen it then. Horrid.

I was driving through Shropshire - the biggest contrast you could imagine, idyllic quintisentially English and placid village scene backdrops to what was being described in real time on Radio 5.....

I Was taters deep.

i was sat at work telling mates about my holiday to new york the previous week (left on the 7th, went up towers on the 2nd)

I was sat at work when someone e-mailed everyone in the office saying an aircraft had hit one of the twin towers. Assuming it was one of them light aircraft and nothing major had become of it, n0bhead here replied to all with "Wimmin drivers eh".

 

Whoops.

I was at work - quite busy. I heard the Twin Towers had been hit by a plane. First thought was the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. I thought - what a shame, fantastic architecture. Presumed it was a plane crashing by accident due to fog.

Then I heard it was New York. Still didn't think much of it, presumed a terrible accident in bad weather. Then someone said a 2nd had hit and you knew then it was no accident.

Went down to the canteen to watch things on TV - and saw the first tower collapse. Bits of footage showed the planes deliberately flying into the towers. Horrible. Then the 2nd tower collapsed. Incredible to watch.

Got home that night and sat from about 6pm-11pm just watching Sky News, CNN, etc. I was fixated by it all for about 3 or 4 days.

I was sat at me desk when it kicked off. Tried to call my old boss who had moved to New York (well New Jersey to be precise but worked in New York). Phones were not ringing and email was not working due to overload on the Yank side.

 

Managed to get a call through to his mobile about 15 hours later just to make sure he was alright but I obviously knew the full story by then. About 30 of us were all sat around a 14" portable in the server room watching it.

Watched it all unfold sat at home recuperating after an operation.

 

Workmate of mine was in New York during the attack.

 

He was in some restaurant a few blocks away watching it on Tv.

 

When the towers fell, he said it was like an earthquake.

Entering the Twilight Zone now. This is gospel. Had to visit the (then) companies offices in Milwaukee the Thursday and Friday of the previous week. Went a couple of weeks earlier and took the wife and daughter to Orlando (where I watched the 5-1 drubbing of Germany in the Cricketers Arms!). Plan was to spend some time in Wisconsin so visited the Wisconsin Dells before the work shiyte was necessary and then we went to a Wisconsin Badgers College football game (v. Fresno State) on the Saturday (a truly awesome experience amongst 70,000 folk just wanting to party). We were supposed to be touring around Wisconsin for the next 4-5 days and leaving on the Friday when the missus has a funny un on the Sunday and says summat like "I don't think we should be here now". After accusing her of insanity when she suggested getting an earlier flight to Manchester to visit home, I relented as she was adamant that she felt we just should not be there any more. I phoned United Airlines and they managed to get us on a British Midland flight Chicago - Manchester on the evening of the 10th. I was amazed at this as I had BM down as a domestic carrier in the UK. Anyway, we get to Bolton mid morning the next day and the mother in law is watching it on the telly. I thought it was a disaster movie.

Don't try and tell me women don't have ESP or some sixth sense we don't have. Fooking spooky but, had she not had this seemingly irrational urge, we would have been locked down in the US for a few weeks.
