Away Grounds

Featured Replies

My pick of the good the bad and the ugly:

BAD

Scarborough away when we got beat 4-0. Bloke fell off the stand roof and I saw 1 pub in the town centre have no less than 5 stools thrown through the windows that night. It were full of Bolton up there. We miss the seaside games, shame.

UGLY

Stoke city away 2-2 when Peter Shilton came on for the red-carded Branagan. I think Ju Darby scored and Stu Storer. A mate of mine got punched square in the throat coming out of the ground and it was kicking off everywhere.

Bet the older lot remember what it was like coming out of Stoke's old ground? Nasty.

GOOD

Remarkably, Everton last season. Don't know why but that was one of the most satisfying away wins I ever saw. And Pederson mixing it sitting with the away fans. Rare these days wins like that....

henrick whats the score Henrick Henrick whats the score! Wot a superb Christmas

Sorry to trump you all but by my calculations the only grounds I???ve not visited are Cheltenham, MK Dons & Barnet. Admittedly a handful I???ve visited while watching Chorley (Boston, Accy Stanley).

What do you mean "Sorry to trump you all"

you are a patronising lying arsehole.

Why the f??ck do you come on this website when you are clearly not wanted? I've probably been arrested at more grounds than you have been to, you daft bint.

Natasha, believe me, you ain't visited many grounds sweet cheeks cos if that is you on your profile I would of spotted you by now

Kinell Rembandt, that's a fair list, i bet theres not many can beat that!

PS Did you not do the White Horse final in '23? - lightweight :D

Ah, you kids have no stamina, is what. Not so much a statto as a memory & some simple adding up. Couldn't do '23 final - crowd was a bit big for a -21yo. :p

Being absolutely brilliant at maths, i've calculated that Rembrandt is 62 years old. Does this make him the most "senior" member on WW? :)

Nah, thats' Biff, he's as old as Methuselah.

(Sorry Biff!) :)

Hereford away 76/7

went down on a ribble coach, game postponed due to frozen pitch

went to rearranged game on supporter's club coach, game postponed due to fog

game rearranged again for the very next night 15/12/76, club put on a free coach for us and Willie Morgan came in Hereford suporter's club before the game and gave us a load of free match tickets off the players.

I did exactly the same, except I went to the first game by supporters club chara, and I was a recipient of a free ticket.

About 3/4 years ago, Boxing Day at Port Vale. We'd seen Wanderers coaches coming back up the A50 (or A500) but carried on. Game frozen off so we went to Crewe v Huddersfield. Mrs. Kerr was none too pleased when I rolled up bladdered at her friends house at ten o'clock to a party which started at six.

When we were munchkins my dad used to drive us all over the place. Scunthorpe, Mansfield, Rotherham, Bristol, and as far as I can remember he never went in to watch the match. He knew all their town centres like the back of his hand, mind.

nothhampton rained like you wouldnt believe

hartlipool snow blizzards that would put the north pole to shame and a scott green cross that went in the back of the net

wolves when we knocked them out the fa cup

I've seen Wanderers at 39 grounds (41 if you count Burnden and the Reebok)

I had been to every Scottish ground by the time I was 19.. though have a few to catch up on now with new grounds and new teams.

best 3 watching Wanderers.... league games only

Hull away when we invaded pitch twice

Port Vale 1st game of the season when I burned my Curcic shirt in front of Wandereres fans

Shrewsbury on another 1st game of the season when Storer scored the winner a few mins from time... what a noise we made that day!

that reminds me of Cambridge a bit back - Cup? - getting absolutely drenched sodden through on the walk back to the station. Battering it down it was :(

Huddersfield in the League Cup in 90 was another wet one.It was August as well and i didnt have my coat on.

Just checked - it were January 2000 in FA Cup 5th round

Dont remember it raining on that one, but Gillingham in the League Cup (Todds last game?) it lashed it down all night, no roof either. Pompey away midnineties was another wet un.

If you count old grounds and new grounds and pre-season friendlies I have been to well over 100 different grounds.

Off the top of my head for obscure grounds, Newport County, Ath Laburnams, Perth St.Johnstone, Dundee, Queen of the South Hampden Park, The Shay, Roker Park

Many more but I am pissed and my memory is  at the moment.

p.s. the lads that I travel to away matches with have been to more grounds than me, they don't know one end of a computer from the other so won't be seen on here.

One of the worst for weather was Oxford away - early to mid 90's, think it was a night match - was snowing and they let some of the Bolton fans stood up go into the adjoining stand as it was that bad.

Me being a teenager decided I'd brave it and stand where I was...

I also remember a couple of freezing games at Roker.

oldham, one boxing day

probably about 1980

snowballing their keeper

twere fleeing

oh, and plymouth away

the coach froze up on the way home

Shrewsbury on another 1st game of the season when Storer scored the winner a few mins from time... what a noise we made that day!

That was about 1989, city were going to spurs and were at picadilly on the same train for some reason, think they changed at crewe or wherever, but anyway they were big grizzly men with beards wearing real tachinni trackie tops with fara's, compared to our small mob of scruffy 16-18 year old leythers. ::::::::lol::::::::

Shrewsbury charged us outside the staton after the game but didnt know there was a good mob of bolton already inside who came rolling out; they soon f??cked off and plod nicked my mate because he was the last one back into the station.

good days them were.

Was boiling hot that day. Was stood on that little terrace with my top off thinking I was one of the boys...

I was 11 yrs old and with my Dad.

One year FA Cup 3rd round against Bradford forget which year about1996/97 season

wanderers fans were in the old chicken run stand only 8feet front to back awful dnt think its like that now

another ground which is rather awful everton goodison park for the away fan sitting on the upper teir is fine just one or two poles in the way

but the lower teir you just see the players heads?

any one been to these and agree

The worst view ever had to be the baseball ground. I was there for the 5th round FA cup tie and couldn't see one half of the pitch or the ball if it went over 15 feet off the ground. Was a grand atmosphere though. Shame Lydiate was so sh??te though and lost us the game. :nea:

i think that was the day when the plod kept us in for ten mins after the game so we made our own exit by kicking the back of the stand down

and barnsley, and rotherham, and swansea, and crewe..........booting the back door in was a common occurance in the late 80's and it always seemed to be some 30 year old notright who was on his own :D

Biggest claim to fame has to be Bristol rovers at Eastville for a midweek game in the 'bad old days' one cold January night.Bolton hadn't taken a single point away from home all season and Bristol topped the table and hadnt been beaten at home.We took the lead only to be pegged back but won the game with a penalty right in front of the traveling support to sent the 40 or 50 Wanderers fans into raptures and make the trip home much more bearable.
