REMEMBER FOREST AWAY TUESDAY NIGHT IN THE LEAGUE CUP - 2ND LEG I THINK , WENT ON A COACH WITH A LOAD OF NOTRIGHTS FROM BOTTOM BULL , COACH BROKE DOWN JUST AS WE GOT OFF THE MOTORWAY IN NOTTINGHAM , 40 LADS PILED OFF AND LITERALLY HIJACKED A PUBLIC TRANSPORT BUS INTO THE CITY CENTRE WHERE WE THEN JUMPED INTO A FLEET OF TAXIS TO THE GROUND . AFTER THE GAME HAD FINISHED THE REPLACEMENT COACH HAD STILL NOT LEFT BOLTON SO WE HAD TO HANG ROUND FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS WITH THE O.B. NOT LETTING US GO ANYWHERE - OH APART FROM THE CHIPPY. FINALLY GOT DROPPED OFF IN FARNWORTH ABOUT 3AM , GOT A TAXI HOME - WENT 200 YARDS AND THE FCUCKIN THING BROKE DOWN !!!!

 

HAD SEVERAL OTHER TRIPS WITH THE BOTTOM BULL LADS - SWINDON AWAY - MUST OF BEEN 25 LADS IN THE BACK OF A BOX VAN - IT WAS LIKE THE SCENE OF A MASS GRAVE , ONCE YOU FOUND A SPOT - THERE WAS NO WAY YOU WAS MOVING .

went down on a ribble coach, game postponed due to frozen pitch

went to rearranged game on supporter's club coach, game postponed due to fog

game rearranged again for the very next night 15/12/76, club put on a free coach for us and Willie Morgan came in Hereford suporter's club before the game and gave us a load of free match tickets off the players.

 

Went to this meself, can't remember if it were Ribble or Hargreaves coach though, remember supping real scrumpie for a couple of hours in some pub or club, grew two heads and two dicks on the way back.

York City, FA Cup 1958 : parents wouldn???t let me go to Deepdale for 3rd round (crowds too big), so I went down to Burnden after school and got a ticket for 4th round at York. Had to work on my parents for days & days before they relented. Dad took me to Trinity Street on the Saturday morning and found a cousin of his going on one of the special trains. I must have f***ed up his day ??? he couldn???t go to the pubs with his mates. I was 13.

 

Bury, FA Cup 1960 : Dreamt night before that we???d score in first minute & go on to a massive win. Went 1-0 up in first minute and ??????. hung on for a replay at 1-1. (Whites education had already started at Brum in FA Cup 1955; 1-1, holding on, kicking ball into stands; lost 1-2).

 

Northampton Town, 2nd Division 1965 : Midweek evening match, went on train from Liverpool (studying there). Needed a win to beat Town to promotion; lost 0-4. End of Hoppy???s career really. Overnight ???milk trains??? back to Liverpool (when such things still existed).

My pick of the good the bad and the ugly:

 

BAD

Scarborough away when we got beat 4-0. Bloke fell off the stand roof and I saw 1 pub in the town centre have no less than 5 stools thrown through the windows that night. It were full of Bolton up there. We miss the seaside games, shame.

 

UGLY

Stoke city away 2-2 when Peter Shilton came on for the red-carded Branagan. I think Ju Darby scored and Stu Storer. A mate of mine got punched square in the throat coming out of the ground and it was kicking off everywhere.

Bet the older lot remember what it was like coming out of Stoke's old ground? Nasty.

 

GOOD

Remarkably, Everton last season. Don't know why but that was one of the most satisfying away wins I ever saw. And Pederson mixing it sitting with the away fans. Rare these days wins like that....

Shilton came on for I thought the red-carded Davidson (? - stattos), but it finished 1-1, with supa equalising foir us. Boro won the championship that night, as we had needed to win both that game, and the Claret Dingles to have any chance.

 

Kicked off big style outside the ground though.

 

 

 

The 2-2 draw was in the old 3rd around 90ish. Once again, ity kicked off outside (as it always did in the rat-run like streets outside the Victoria ground.

Brentford away game mid-week to break london duck.

 

Wimbledon/Orient/Plymouth away in same week (7 days). Wimbledon was CC Cup, other two league.

 

Southend wed away, Millwall following sat away.

reading- first ever away match that i went to on me own, was only 15

guimares- first european trip, and hopefully not the last.

Completed all 92 grounds in Oct 79, not all with Bolton. Went the infamous 1-6 defeat at Notts county, can remember going to Brighton on the Saturday and Southend on the Monday and never seeing the sea.

Just totalled mine up, came to 24 grounds, but I have done a list like this before, and sure I came to more than 24, think I may have done the list as the grounds that I have seen Bolton play at, ie I included Burnden and Reebok in that list too.

 

Was at the Chelsea away in '98 when we got relegated and the Chelsea fans were cheering for Bolton

Guimaraes (first every venture into Europe as a Wanderer)

Doing 2 London games in the space of 3 days is hard work, went to Fulham on the Wednesday and Charlton on the Saturday this season

Will be going to Newcastle, Blackburn and Charlton away in the space of 9/10 days.

 

Personally think that 24 grounds, and Im only 16 is quite a good tally.

80-odd. Can't be arsed going through them again.

- All 4 Euro Aways last season.

- Southend on Boxing Day for a noon kick off. I drove. Had to get a new battery for my car from a garage on Christmas Day. Stayed sober in the pub that night so I'd be fit to drive whilst all my mates got wasted.

- Away trips to Southampton (cup), Peterborough and Hartlepool in just 6 days. My driver side indicator burnt out on way back from Peterborough. And then we broke down. Managed a push start to get us all home. Then 3 days later, I drove the same car, having had none of the faults fixed, up to the North East. Pssed off just about everybody on the A1 by not indicating when I pulled out!!!

- Cambridge, Norwich, Ipswich (twice), Exeter, Bournemouth for midweek fixtures.

 

Possibly the most satisfying was when Chris Fairclough scored in the 90th minute down at Crystal Palace in our promotion season. We'd had a hell of a day out and it looked like it was going pear-shaped, when he popped up to equalise. Went absolutely MENTAL on the fence down the front. Awesome. Probably never celebrated a goal like that one before or since.

I imagine others who were there that night would agree.

I've got 17, which for a 15 year old ain't bad.

 

First one ever was Tranmere away when I was about 6. Can remember fcuk all about it but I think we won 7-1. Not sure on it though. I would be grateful for any statto willing to put me right, Tranmere away about 97 could be 96 though and i'm almost certain we battered them?

 

First one with my mates was Villa 04, with Speedo's equaliser.

 

Some others that stick out are my only league win (not counting tranmere) which was City last season.

 

And Chelsea last season because even though we lost the whole experience was class, especially the atmosphere in the Bolton end which for a team losing 5-1 was top class.

best footballathon was bournemouth away on tuesday, staying over for england v holland at wembley, then a night in sheffield on the way to hull on the friday night, which was so enjoyable we stayed until sunday.

 

took a ??500 bank loan out to 'buy a car' before setting off for bournemouth and had pissed it up the wall by sunday.

Smallest Bolton following i've been in was at Gillingham on a Tuesday night in 88/89.There were 79 stood on the away end and probably about 30 more in the Main Stand.

 

Most optimistic journey made was Wimbledon in the League cup in 92/93.1-3 down from the first leg and two divisions below them.Around 150 i would say were stood on the away end behind the goal at Selhurst Park where the big new stand is.

 

Worst view was at West Ham in the League Cup in 94/95.I went without a ticket and could only get a seat in the home section with a "restricted view".I actually had one of the metal posts holding up the stand between my legs.Half the stand was empty after an hour when we were 3-0 up so i did manage to see the end of the game without a metal pillar blocking over half the pitch

I remember that one as one of the papers the next day had a picture of an entire stand down one side empty. <2k there as I recall (have to admit I was living in London at the time so its not quite the Brucie Bonus it could be ).

Actually, on the subject of hopeless causes in the league Cup I went with some London based Hull fans to their away game at QPR at about the same time. as I recall they were 4-0 down from the home leg, so fair play to the good few who actually travelled!

Well I potentially had a worse view at Pompey on Monday in that if we'd been sitting where we were supposed to be the seat on my ticket didnt actually exist! the row in question ended at 150 and I had 151! So I fucked off down the front with Squidgy and Jay etc

I had a situation like that at Spurs in 2004/05 when we won 2-1 on the day Billy Nick died.My seat didnt exist but the stewards insisted that i wait with them under the stand until 10 minutes into the game when they would find me a seat.I was displeased with that of course but i ended up sat next to a pretty young blond who was up for communal hugging when we scored....so it was worth missing the minutes silence and the start of the match :p
